    Hi Girls,

My gf is having what she thinks it´s a big problem with her hair, she is losing a lot of hair lately. Each morning there is a good amount of hair on the pillows and apparently every time she goes to the hairdresser she is told that she is losing too much hair.

Would you be able to recommend any shampoo or product that could help with this?

    Thanks!

people do shed more hair in hot weather (not that we've been having it recently), but i think in this case she should go to the doctor.
it could be diet related or something like alopecia or PCOS.

stress is a major contributing factor to hair loss.

How is her personal life? Work ok?

edit: she should really speak to a GP though because there are many factors that could be causing it. Serious illness being one of them. Don't mean to worry you but really she should talk to a professional rather than relying on the Ladies Lounge.

    Hey, thanks for the answers!

Personal life is grand ( I think :) ), and there is not much stress to be honest. We already had thought about going to the doctor as it seems common sense; it was just in case anyone could know about good shampoos as sometimes hair loss can be due to a greasy scalp or using strong ionic shampoos (that is exactly what my dermatologist told me 10 years ago and since them I am using the same shampoo, with great success I must say :D).

So, well, it would be great if someone could recommend any product just to test before going to a professional.

Fair enough... but if I were her I'd want to rule out the 'serious illness' possibility before I ruled out the greasy scalp possibility!

Maybe some of the girls willl know better than me. You lost me at 'shampoo' tbh.

Ups.. I was just trying to say that I am not bald... yet.

In fairness when I was saying at the beginning "good amount of hair on the pillows" maybe that was a little bit exaggerated. Let's say, there is hair. More hair than months ago, let's say twice. I do not want you to think she is losing huge amounts! Otherwise we would have already gone to see a gp.

She hasn't changed her diet or anything recently has she?

What kind of condition is her hair in apart from the loss?? Does she dye the hell out of it, because that could be a factor.

Hiya, I have developed alopecia over the past few months (lovely 2 euro sized baldy patches) and my hair has gotten lighter in general. I find that it is really irritated by smelly shampoos (herbal essence really made it fall out much more- as lovely as it smells) I am now using elvive shampoo- just fairly plain... and most of the patches have filled in. Still lighter than it was, but getting there.

I was also advised to see a GP as it can be a sign of thyroid problems- I havent done it- useless with doctors, but might be worth a look.

    Good luck!

does she tie her hair up alot?
that was one of the reasons i lost a lot of hair.
its called tension alopecia i think

Is it falling out from specific areas or just generally all over?

If she is concerned I'd say see a doctor, but not all are sympathetic. Dietary supplements like Biotin can help in the meantime.

Mine has been falling out in clumps for a coup[le of years now and I'm nowhere near bald....though mine is PCOS related and I keep the rest of it really long to hide any sparse patches. :D

The hairdresser told her she was losing too much hair, but didn't recommend anything she could do about it? And they say customer service is dead...

Lush do a cinnamon shampoo called New which is meant to stimulate the scalp, and help alopecia and female hair loss (as oppose to hereditary male baldness)

Hey, thanks everyone for all the answers and advice. Honestly, she went today to the Pharmacy asking for a good shampoo to prevent hair loss and the girl there asnwered what I would have done, "for you?".

Probably the different type of water (moved to Ireland 2 years ago), humidity, even the change of diet has make her hair lighter, but nothing to be much worried at this time. Anyways, will try one of the shampoos recommended here. Thanks about that!!

There is a supplement called "head high" that I have just begun to take on the advice of my hairdresser, got it in the chemist. My hair got very thin around the front after the births of my children. Also a lot falls out around the house and in the shower, but I think you just notice more if you have got long hair and worse if it's dark. Kerestase (sp??) also do a supplement, but haven't tried that one yet. Good luck.

Go to the GP for christs sake. It could be something serious or it could be nothing. But the sooner you find out the better !
