Anyone tried laser therapy for acne scars?

I've had acne for years but it's finally started to clear up and i'm only getting the odd zit now but I've been left with a lot of scarring just along the jaw line.

I can cover it with concealer but I've love if I could someway rejuvenate the skin so that it looks better without always having to cover up.

    The appearance looks quite purple/red.

Has anyone tried laser therapy for acne scars with any luck and could you recommend a place to go to? I'm in Dublin.

    Thanks!

    Hi

I too had very bad acne scarring, but it is looking considerable better after 3 courses of laser treatment. My scarring used to be very pitted along my cheeks, but now it just looks like mild indentations-not nearly as noticeable and I'm mine own worst critic when it comes to my skin! I am due to have one more session in 6 months' time. I know my skin will never be perfect after 13 years of acne but I do feel better and more confident about it now.

I had my scarring treatment done in the Ailesbury Clinic in Dublin with Dr. Patrick Treacy. Found him to be very practical in terms of what he could do for me and what results I could expect to see. It takes a week for skin to heal after the laser treatment so this may not be a practical solution for you if you cannot take this time out.

If you merely want to improve skin tone though and don't need work done for scarring, I would suggest a phototherapy laser treatment. This procedure has no down-time.

I have had a combination of both done! Hope this info has helped and good luck!

Thanks so much autumn! That's a real help. Can I ask is the treatment expensive? I might make an appointment for a consultation to see what he'd recommend - there are so many options it's hard to know what's best for you.

Glad to hear you had great results - it's bad enough having spots for years without having to put up with scars too!

I got a deal on price for 3-4 sessions as it was a relatively new laser (the Active FX) and I was a guinea pig for acne scarring so to speak (that's not as bad as it sounds, I did a lot of research on both the clinic and the competancy of the doctor)! Here's a link for the website www.ailesburyclinic.ie. It is worth the money though. I paid 500 per session, but not sure what full price is.

I'm having the phototherapy treatment done locally, I'm from Sligo, but I'm sure there are loads of salons etc. around Dublin that offer it.

Heading home for evening now, but feel free ask me any other questions and I'll reply tomorrow.

Mind if I jump in here Autumn 1 and ask about the phototherapy treatment? I'm interested in laser or something like that. I have psoriasis and had a bad patch which has now healed but left a purple patch on my skin. It looks like a birthmark or bad bruise. Is this the type of thing that phototherapy could treat or would laser suit I wonder? Thanks for any info.

    Hi dfo3

As far as I know, Phototherapy is used to treat uneven skin tone like redness, mottled skin from acne scarring, broken veins, pigmentation and sun/age spots. Sorry, I really couldn't say if it would clear up mark left from psoriasis, as I have no experience with this. You really would need a consultation from a professional to ascertain best course of treatment for you personally.

You should def. go along for both consultations and see which treatment is recommended, and which one will give you the best results.

Here is a link on what the Phototherapy laser can do http://www.bodybenefits.biz/menu.asp?Menu=31
This type of laser is just a flash of diff. types of light into lower layers of skin, no burning involved, you will be only slightly red afterwards.

I gave link for Active Fx laser in previous post, this laser actually burns into lower layers of skin, you are very red, it will weep slightly for day and then it will start to scab slightly as it heals. This treatment really does require up to a week off work.
