    Hey guys,

I'm just asking on behalf of a friend, what DSLR camera you boardies would recommend getting to fit these requirements:

    First hand: doesnt matter

    Price: €450 (or less)

    Brand: doesn't matter

Basically he's looking for a camera for college and he'll take what's the best value, regardless of brand.

Realistically, all the entry level DSLR's from the major players (Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax, Sony etc.) will all turn out excellent images.

Whats more important is how the cameras feel in hand. Get your friend to go into a well stocked camera shop, try them all out, check out the prices on offer, check online and make a choice:D.

In other words, pick the camera, then find the best price.

Might be a bit simplistic, but it the best advice I have!

But brand sort of does matter , especially to your pocket in the long run ,

Take a look at this site ( or any camera seller for that matter )

    http://www.technikdirekt.de/main/landingpage.aspx?SESSIONID=qcqvoy55ve1got45yp1dqdvf-1&&referer=%2fmain%2fpage.html%3f

Now check the range and more importantly the prices of lenses. This is crucial, while all SLR's will turn out excellent pictures , only Canon and Nikon have a vast range of lenses to suit any pocket.
Those two also have the most support from third party lens manufacturers like Sigma and Tamron.

The others are quite limited in range and quite expensive as well.

For that reason alone I recommend you stick with either Canon or Nikon.

I would agree with that, its the long term cost of owning camera. I have Nikon camera, and selection of Nikon and Tokina lenses, I can happily upgrade camera body and still use my current lenses.

Is he doing Photography at College?

Does he require it to be a SLR or would a Bridge Camera fit the requirements?

If he does need a DSLR then I would go with the Nikon or Canon. I have seen a ad up at DCC for a D70S but not sure of the price, but can check. We will also be having our Auction shortly, so that is a good place to pick up a bargain.

I got an olympus e410 few months back and I think it was around 500. Im finding it great. You need to fiddle with the settings (nosie and sharpness) and the images are pretty good from it.I ve noticed the lenses are not as plentiful to buy though as canon or nikon. But as an entry level dslr Im finding it great.
