    Hi,
I have been asked to do some private work on the side (by a doctor,I carry out some of the testing he needs),but I have no idea how to charge the clients and the implications for my own tax. These clients will be paying by cheque as they will be billed after the test.

Please help as I need to know is it worth my while as it will be a bit hit and miss if and when I will get any referrals.

    Thanks

As a rule of thumb as a self employed service provider and providing you have no significant overheads you should charge yourself to the doctor at an hourly rate of double what you would accept as an employee.
