Yeah, I love the one about the Sioux city crash, where the training pilot tried to steer with the throttles.
He done a great job all considering.
I think the movie “Fearless” was loosely based on this crash.

Like it as well but the R/T and some of the cockpit stuff is terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,472 ✭✭✭highlydebased

Or if the accident involves say a 747.....one minute they show an A320 flightdeck...next minute a 737 flightdeck...etc!

Ive only ever seen parts of the mid air collision one on youtube, never saw it on tv.

I was most impressed with the gimli glider one, some skill involved. I must say the narration is great, especially the cliffhangers before ad breaks - "but what the captain didnt know was that the abandoned air force base's runway that he once trained on, was no longer a runway, but a drag racing strip" and it shows the footage of cars racing up and down the runway.

OMG, I love this show! The Gimli Glider episode is probably my second favourite, Blow Out being my number one. What an unblievable story.

I haven't seen any of the season three episodes though :(

The Air Transat emergency no fuel landing in the Azores is my favourite.

I don't watch much tv but this is one programme I make sure not to miss....every Saturday I check the tv guide for the coming week to see when it's on...totally riviting stuff, very addictive.

I used to be a nervous flyer but strangely since i've watched this i've become much more relaxed before flying.

I would say it's a pity that they make so few episodes & mostly show repeats.....but that would mean I want planes to crash more, which is not true.

Have Nat Geographic released any of these episodes on DVD? I checked this out but couldn't find it anywhere.

I forgot - favourite episode is the Helios Airways 'ghost plane'.

Its weird but im fascinated with plane crash stuff since I was a kid. It always replays in my mind then when i'm on a flight :)

I used to spend hours trawling through the cockpit and ATC recordings on here too: http://www.airdisaster.com/

Does anyone have a good web link to videos of dodgey landings / takeoffs / near misses /etc?

I've looked up you tube - some good clips but nothing great tbh.

I saw a boxset of the "Mayday" series in HMV the other week. Mayday is the american name for Air Crash...IN fact an amazon search of mayday yielded this:

I've found that lately all we watch at home are the Nat Geo and Discovery Science channels. I love the Air Crash Investigations / Seconds from Disaster series, they're really good and often keep me up until the wee hours of the morning :D

Or If you dont like the Nat Geo Player i've ftp'd it

    http://barnicles.net23.net/aci6x01preview.flv

You'll need VLC or Riva FLV to open it.
There are others but IMHO theyre the best.

Not a bad episode but a little dissapointed tbh - it was more from the 'lockerbie' view point & corresponding investigation, very little info about the flight/passangers & build up to the explosion...but I suppose there is little re-enactment that can be done when the plane simply blew apart...

Was the ghost plane not eastern airlines the crashed in the Florida Everglades? Think Helios only had 1 accident in Greece in 2005

    Don't think so.

The Florida crash was a L1011 which crashed because the crew became engrossed in the failure of the landing gear to deploy, that they failed to realise the alt. was decaying and then it was too late:eek:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,423 ✭✭✭Gadgetman496

I think that was Helios Airways Flight 522.

    See video clip HERE:

it was the helios one. the crew forgot to flick the pressurisation switch from manual to automatic after some engineers done some routine maintainence checks iirc. Everyone basically conked out on the flight through lack of oxygen except a steward(who wanted to be a commercial pilot) tried to take control having used emergency o2 cannisters to make his way up the plane.

Ahh yes remember it now thanks for the clip gadgetman! sorry about that! I was thinking of Eastern Airlines flight 401 where they removed all the good working parts of the plane and placed them on another aircraft where the crew reportably seen the ghosts of the pilot and co- pilot! excellent episode!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 839 ✭✭✭Juran

Regarding Eastern Flight 401: My mother flew with eastern in the 60's & early 70's .. she actually worked on that Lockheed plane [401] a few months earlier as a flight attendent .... she had moved to the NY base by the time 401 went down in '72 but knew most of the flight crew very well ... I remember as a kid her telling me about flight 401 and the 'ghosts' which were connected to planes which recieved spare parts .. the program brought back memories for my mother, but she felt the producers did a great job with the details and respect for crew & passangers ... great series ...

I know this thread is a bit old but I don't want to start a new one for the sake of this question.

What's the situation with season 6?

TV.com is only listing 2 episodes.....

Does anyone know where it's currently at or is it on hold?

Any idea why is being billed as series 7 instead of 6?

    What happened to season 6?

In 2007 Nat Geo showed season 4. They showed half in February as season 4 and half in september as season 5. Since then it is 1 season out of sync
