Reminds me of 1960's Ireland type of shot.

I know nothing about photography but I honestly feel that for the layman viewer the photo would be far more interesting without the lady (?) with the brolly...

It's definitely reminiscent of a 1960's photograph of 'old' Dublin but because it is juxtaposed with the modern elements of clothing styles evident it becomes almost like some sort of anachronism!

You feel like the people are out of place for the time...or that the time is out of place for the people. It's helped by the fact that there are no cars...although the scooter gives it away ever so slightly.

    I really like it.

cheers for the comments....while it may be better without the lady I got her in the shot cos she is dressed.....for a certain vintage....and I was going for the 60's look with the shot.but for her positioning would she be better placed inantoher area?

thanks all for the comments btw much appreciated.

Lady totally kills it, she has taken up way too much of it, pity because the rest of it and especially the buildings are quite good.
It's tempting me to get of my arse and do something similar since the place is just up the road..
Referring to the lady for the vintage look that is pointless if the guy in the background is dressed modernly and is using a MOBILE!

I wouldn't say the umbrella totally ruins the shot, like Animal Rider up there, but it does distract from the old building in the background. You do need something in the foreground, or the photo would look empty, but something a bit smaller and in focus would have been better

i like the processing to b/w - the contrast is nice and even the blown out areas work for this genre. the woman with the brolly to my eye is overpowering - not that i don't think she should be there, but she consumes a good quarter of the image so her proportion is disproportionate (if that makes sense).

Lovely photo, one of the best I've seen on this board. I really like the atmosphere, the choice to go B&W was a good one (and one I personally resist, maybe I should think again). Like someone said above, there's a beguiling sense of time dislocation, the photo has that vintage atmosphere, but there's something not quite right, clues that your immediate interpretation isn't reliable. The fact that the person in the forground is blurred adds to the atmosphere and mystery. And that's a nice feat considering its just a street shot.

The decision to segment the composition on the right hand side by the dark facade of the building nicely situates the lady with the umbrella in a nearly 6X6- or 6x7-style composition, but then you've got that cheeky scooter at the bottom.

Very nice, and, if I was being cheeky, I'd carefully select the umbrella-woman and blur her a bit more.
