I desparately need advice on powder for anti shine. I have tried a variety of powders but have not found anything decent since I was last able to buy corn silk. I am tired of wasting money on powders which last no time at all. I am hoping to hear from anyone who has the same problem but has a recommendation. I have just started a new job and am feeling self conscious.

I've heard good things about MAC Blot Powder. It's got very good ratings on MUA. I haven't tried it because the people who love it talk about reapplying it several times a day, that just doesn't cut it for me. If you can get Clinique in Ireland then they make a nice Pore Minimizer which mattifies (is that a word??) very well.

No powder in the world is going to keep your face shine-free all day with just one application!

I use MAC blot powder in the morning when I put my makeup on, and then I use MAC mineralise skin finish powder twice during the day with a kabuki brush.

It's also important to use an oil-free moisturiser and a primer too...blot powder can't do 100% of the work!

EVERY time I have a facial, the beauty therapist repeats that line about getting an oil-free moisturiser. Then, the last time, she pointed out that I need one with a fairly high SPF as well - before charging me a big wodge of cash for one she just happened to have in stock.

Here's my question: Does anybody on the high street do an oil-free moisturiser with a decent SPF?

yeah i have the same problem. When you pun on your moisturiser, leave as long as possible before puttng on makeup but thats not easy when you are rushing like me. I use benefit powder but would have to powder my nose on breaks etc.

I didn't say anything about just one application. But 4-5 applications a day is pointless, which is what the women I was referring to earlier said they do.

Why? It literally takes 10 seconds to put some blot powder on your brush and dust it over your face.

Imo if you have to reapply it that often it isn't effective.

Oh, OP Monistat Chafing Gel works, odd as it sounds. Plus it's super cheap, but I don't know if you can get it in Ireland.

You obviously don't have oily skin!

Lolz, that's possible. It's not super-duper oily, so maybe I just haven't had the true oil slick experience. Or maybe we just have different opinions.:p

Yes, it is better than MAC primer, I think. I'm going to buy another bottle of it when my MAC one is finished.

Yeah, I have used both and found the smashbox primer really evens out your skin whereas the MAC prep 'n prime feels like it just soaks into the skin. I wasn't too impressed by it.

The MAC blot powder is good to stop shine but you do need to re-apply it. It is good in that it doesn't cake. The Studio Fix powder has more pigment in it (it's a foundation powder) so you could try that but just use on areas where the shine has melted away the foundation so you don't look caked in make-up. Using a brush rather than the puff/sponge that it comes with helps stop yourself applying too much I find.
