A BGRH beers of potentially epic proportions

This is at the early planning stages, so nothing is definite, nothing is confirmed.

However, we are thinking of organising a beers to Germany for next March, this poll is purely to gauge interest.

    When: March 2009 timeframe
    Where: Dusseldorf, Germany

    Why Dusseldorf?
Cheap to get to - flights next March are showing as around €140 with Aer Lingus. Two flights a day, flight is approx. 1hr 20mins
Cheap to get around - taxi to city center is approx. €8, public transport is as you would expect in a German city, top class
Food/drink - Dusseldorf has a Temple Bar type area (Old Town) with plenty of eateries, great drink, and isn't expensive.

Plus, I have a particular pub in mind that would be ideal for a Beers event.

Why talk about it six months beforehand? - the earlier you book your flights, the cheaper they are.

So, would you be interested in a beers of epic proportions? :D

I'm off to Dusseldorf this week, booked it 2 weeks ago 32 euro return.
    So not true.

8 euro for a taxi does not sound cheap....Czech is the home of Beer.

Look, here's something I suggest you give serious consideration to - STFU.

You seem to have nothing good to say about BGRH, you seem to do nothing but post negative comments about pretty much everything. Plus, you even had the audacity to call BGRH a clique.

So, if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all.

    Consider this your first warning.

    This reeks of awesomeness.

Tom, I'm saying yes now. I am aiming for this, but will have to see closer the time and when in march you are thinking because I'm flying out then for my 5 weeks away on the 8th April.

I mod the nocturnal forum and have been involved in the setting up of this idea since we first thought about it and the idea has been from the start for the nocturnal forum to be a part of this if it goes ahead.

There is currently a thread in the nocturnal forum inviting all of the users from that forum along to this event if it happens and directing the users of that forum to this thread. Not exactly much of a clique here if they are inviting one of the busiest forums on boards to join them. Anyone and everyone is welcome to get involved and come along if they want to

as posted on the other thread, i'm feckin IN.

and would anybody that thinks of using the 'c' word ever again kindly stfu & gtfo! the only people that make claims like this are people that don't attend beers tbh, or feel left out because they can't. but EVERY time someone new comes to a beers they are welcomed with open arms regardless of whether they post in the forum that's holding it or not, and i've heard nothing but good feedback from these people. grow up folks

edit: i'm adding a sad face as well :( why can't we all just get along!

This would be AMAZING but why in March and not a summer month?

Basically, it boils down to cost - the flights will be cheaper, the accommodation will be cheaper.

My logic is that it is long enough after Christmas to allow people save up for it, and it is not near enough Summer, so it won't clash with other holidays.

@ Moonbaby, BGRH is FAR from a clique! I've only posted there one or two times but I've been to several beers and I've always been made to feel welcome despite not being a 'regular' - they're possibly the friendliest bunch you'd find on this site!

Because a) people generally have a lot of other things going on during the summer; b) flights and accommodation prices are cheaper at that time of the year compared to summer; and c) we don't want to have to wait that long!

As for the clique thing, 50+ people at the beers the other night constitutes a rather large clique imo.

hmm will it be around easter?
Methinks the cost will be around €500-700

    Stop saying cliques
    It's so annoying

    From wiki
A clique is an exclusive group of people who share interests, views, purposes, patterns of behavior, or ethnicity.

No exclusive group here ,people are invited and allowed take part.

They have same interest does not mean clique.

And if times and dates seem to be set that is because the backbone of the group have shuffled through ideas that could be suitable for all

Just to give people an idea, I was there in May.

Flew out Friday evening, at 17:40, so didn't have to take a day off work (there's also a cheaper flight at 7:00am or so). Flew back Sunday evening around 9:00pm (again, there is an earlier flight on a Sunday). Hotel was a decent enough, mid-range, nothing fancy. Total cost was approx. €350.

Eating out/drinking is not at all expensive.

It'll definitely be a weekend. It'll be up to people to decide themselves what combination of days from Friday to monday they want to go for, but the beeers will more than likely be on the Saturday night I'd imgine.

No, I purposely don't want to book Paddy's weekend, as the flights will be be more expensive.

I am thinking Friday to Sunday, beers on the Saturday night.

Oh, and German Karaoke, ftw. :D

Here's an idea of flights for people. I tried the weekend Fri 13th March - Sun 15th March with Aer Lingus and it was E163. Then tried 27th - 29th and it came in at E116, a full fifty quid cheaper.

edit: link doesn't work, but the prices above are return flights including tax etc., search it yourself on the aer lingus website if you're curious :)
