Why are we getting such heavy rainfall in such high pressure conditions? I thought anything over the 1020hpa kills rain?
Surely if this was January and there'd be no snow!

We can still have rain at 1030mb as was the case myself and Black Briar noticed ealier this year. Certainly the rain was not too heavy as the front crossed the country. If pressure is on the high side of 1013mb the rain won't be extremely heavy as if it was 10mb less or more.

We are under an inversion layer(stratus muck) and clouds are thick enough(Opacity or opaqueness) to produce rain. The high(or descending air) is not high enough to kill the precip in this airmass.

Yes. It certainly rained very heavy all day in the western half of the country yesterday. Also, the rain was very slow to clear in the evening.
