These have good emotion and feel.

#1 For some reason I love the Green, slight crop of the top?
#2 Nice n' sharp but he is too to the left and is chopped.
    #3 Okish
#4 My favourite, I'd try a diff crop only.

i was thinking that, but i like the green so much i didnt want to...

indeed 50mm in a pit...it wasnt easy eith 3 other camera guys round me
    #3 Okish

would had that as my fav... good ol 300 preset in LR :D
#4 My favourite, I'd try a diff crop only.

    A tighter crop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,067 ✭✭✭AnimalRights

Not sure lol, If it's tighter might lose some of the emotion..
I brought my 50mm 1.4 to the 9/11 gig on my pixie the other night and only got 1 picture I really liked (excellent DOF, see if you can find it ;) ), most of the pics were from my 24-105L f/4..
So proves you can do gigs with a f4 lens, infact most of my gig shots are the 24-105L.
Found the 50mm struggling to focus, then again not used it much so I'm a bit rusty with it.

About #3 I was going to suggest a LR preset!!

    http://pix.ie/punkrock/670584/in/album/326594 this one?

i find the 50mm grand, i do tend to mf alot tho, as i broke it for a while and had to mf and i got used to doing it,its quicker once ya get the hang of it.

you can do gigs with a f4...but youd need flash and high iso, not worth it, and f4 is only doable with some great lighting

    1) Haha yes. :)
    2) Yeah I need to def use the 50mm more but since I bought the 24-105L I just use that 99% of the time.
    3) Good points, I used external flash for my gigs, thats the beauty about the music I'm into it's DIY and no bouncers or stupid rules. ISO was fairly low from what I remember.
ISO was 400 and I just went to my library from the night and for some I had it on 1200!! For some reason I forgot it was on that, that was a mistake, 400 photos were fine.
The 40D is such a sexy camera.

well unless you use flash...which is a universal no no for any gig except the old punk or crumby slatterys gig job, anything over 2.8 is gonna produce a big blurry blob. lucky my d50 is lovely noise control, most my shots are min iso800 and i just chuck them through noise nija after and it cleans up things nicely...tho i've noticed its sometimes giving a "plastic" look to skin

    #3 is the bizz.

Not wild about the others, and knowing their music and shows, this one captures it for me, it's like the Franklin&Marshall dude is staring out at you regardless of Mick's hollering.

last one is the best for me - i would crop tighter though. just a personal preference but i wouldn't be gone on the green hue in #1

That green hue was straight from camera no editing, twas what i liked bout it, ah well, suppose it is a bit naff, i may try the tighter crop on the last one, a bit of bw treatment maybe also

Same question i was going to ask.

Love the first shot with the green hue dude, stay loyal to it!

The 3rd shot is my favourite. Great expression and emotion.

Like No. 4. The rest I don't feel particularly warm about.

i do but not processed yet, not really great ones, i focused on the singer as the rest we in bad angles under piss poor lights, Boi got some nice ones of the lady singer if she'd care to share?

#1 would be my favorite although the blown out hands and exposure ruin it for me. I like the green though. I think I know where this was taken but not sure if we can say. If it is where I'm thinking of I haven't shot there myself but am looking to.

Which kind of leads me onto the other three. The compositions ruin them for me. I'm not sure whether you were in front of say a small security barrier or anything or were in amongst the crowd but a step back and some slightly wider, longer shots could have worked, keeping the elbows and mics in etc.

I was in front of a very very small security barrier, taken in UCD Student Bar so its all gravy

I would indeed, cheers mel. I focused on her more, think my lens was more suited to the light conditions :p

At the mo I'm using a 20D and they were taken with the ever trusty 50mm 1.8.

Wanna get a 5D though. Although the new 5D sounds good. Actually since theres been some speculation about it I might mention this.

I was doing an event for a magazine last week, social photos, lots of irish tv people, that kind of thing. A guy came over and started slagging my camera but then told me he was only joking and gave me his card. He works for canon ireland. Chatted ofr a bit and he asked me was I looking forward to the new 5D? So I asked if it was actually coming out and he told me it was and that it's something special. not sure if it's been confirmed otherwise but he seemed very enthusiastic about it.

And the griffith course is good too. :D

Oops, just been on Conns site and I see the 5D MKII is out in november. Silly me. Bet I looked behind the times asking if it was really coming out. :D

    Seems nice though.
