Upon watching the tri nations decider yesterday I found it disappointing to say the least that a ref (and his touch judges), who has been refereeing ELV matches for an entire season, could produce such a poor display in policing the ruck area. Full credit has to go to the All Blacks though for playing the game as the ref calls it but it is frustrating to see bad decisions win games.

McCaw kept chancing his arm and didn't get sinbinned, so of course he kept doing it. Truly the ref bottled it.

If he was playing in a different colour shirt, he'd spend a lot more time in the bin. Fair fucks to him, we would wax lyrical like the kiwis if we had a player who could get away with murder like Richie.

One man's ball-slowing hero is another man's ball killing cheat.

If Wallace played a game like that for Ireland in a winner takes all game he'd be given a hero's welcome home afterwards.

Also, I might add that the ELVs do not affect the ruck area. Refs have been instructed to officiate the rucks as the laws originally and strictly dictate.

If anyone watched the Gloucester vs Bath game yesterday you would have seen a master class i referring by Wayne Barnes he did a great job regarding the breakdown area took no sh1t and more importantly explained to both teams clearly what had happened and how to avoid committing such a offence again.

Absolutely, but between the applications and the elvs..well you'd need two refs on the field at times...

Shouldnt have to do that onfield.
Players acting dumb when pinged for an infringement will be fairly prevalent over the next few weeks but hopefully no longer than that.
Its up to the team's staff and the players themselves to figure out what to do when playing a game, not the ref. There is only one set of laws and all protagonists are well aware of this.
