Anyone had the misfortune of seeing this?

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0402399/

I am currently 32 minutes in and i am wondering if there is a reason i should not turn it off? Maybe Christian Bale can salvage it, but i don't think i've even seen him yet.

Have had the DVD sitting on my shelf for the past few years and I've yet to even put it in my DVD player. My parents watched it and said that it was very slow.

Quite frankly, it's a load of pretentious ****.

The editor should be shot, it feels like i'm watching a 40 min long trailer of a movie, rather than the actual movie.

The cinematography and production values are amazing. Unfortunately the pacing is incredibly slow. I actually couldn't make it all the way to the end. i didn't even get to see Bale and he's my fave actor!

Its up there as one of the most boring films I've ever had the misfortune of seeing. Watch it at your peril.

The New World is an insufferably boring piece of shit. Picks up a bit when Christian Bale finally arrives but frankly it's already burnt all its bridges by this point.

People who think Terence Malick is some sort of genius filmmaker are morons. He should investigate pure photography instead of film-making if that's clearly the only aspect of production he has any interest in. The only thing to his credit is at least he only inflicts a movie upon once every 10 years or so.

Yeah Malick is a great film maker. His movies are gorgeous to look at and contain some beautiful imagery. The New World didn't quite reach the heights of The Thin Red Line or Days of Heaven but it was still one of the most memorable movies of the last few years.

The only reason I watched The New World is because I really enjoyed Malick's previous film The Thin Red Line. The New World was shockingly bad in pretty much every aspect except cinematography. The runtime was 135 minutes and there is a rumoured 150 minute version on the way

I didn't think that it was that bad. Once I got my head around the fact that it's not an action film. It did look great and I thought that the story was interesting. It showed an aspect of what life was like for the early settlers in america. The portrail of the native american's is supposed to be very accurate.

As for the film being boring, imagine what it would have been like to live there back then. Maybe the director wanted to bring this across.

The rest of my family were expecting an action film. Needless to say, they were disappointed.

I love Malik's films. Badlands, Thin Red Line and The New World were all fantastic shows I thought. I really liked The New World. Sure, it IS slow but then not everything has to be Transformers y'know. But, then again, I'm a moron a moron.
