Was at the Weir in Lucan today, some amount of Snappers there, Including one mad fecker standing in the water (it was only a Canon but still!)

Never did this before so any C&C from any experts is welcome!

Don't worry Fergus, I'm not insulted :P. Hope I didn't get in the way of any of your shots. Some really good one's there. Love the first and second!

About half the k1 and k2 class got snapped in half on the first weir (only one minute into the race). Some of the boats are just pure fibreglass. The large boats(and racers) should be coming down the weirs sidewards to prevent this.

I live in lucan and dont even know where this is. I really should be checking out local events.

Great job, love the third one. And the help scribbled on the underside in the 4th is deadly.

The only thing I would do at all to these shots is add a bit of contrast, they are all quite bright and a bit more contrast would bring them out more.

I was there as well. There must have been at least 20-30 snappers there, both on the bridge and down on the bank. From the angle you have on the boat that snapped, you must have been pretty near to me on the bridge. It was absolute carnage there at one point when all the single canoes came down near the end.

How did people get onto the bank? The people at the gates wouldn't let me in there, canoeists only he said. There were lashings of snappers and spectators on the bank.

Edit: Just noticed you said Lucan. I was at the straffan weir where it started. Thus the carnage!

That was the old way down a few months ago when they hadn't done up the bank. The new entrance/laneway to it is just around the corner on the main road.

I meant the bank in straffan. The only entrance was at the k club but no access there for non canoeists supposedly!!!

Oh Sorry, To get to the bank at straffan was through the K-club entrance. Either know the lads on the gate or just blag your way in ;)

EDIT: Fergus, your first shot. Was that the girl who had to be looked at after? Thought she broke/hurt her ankles..?

Took photos at the Spa hotel weir but on the woods part of the bank where there was a challenging weir- excellent weather for it.
Happy to burn a disk for free and send on all the photos (must have captured over 100 canoeists going over the weir) to a club/society who can share them with their members- next year will be very special- would consider taking up canoeing just to take part in that.

Met one of the lads yesterday. Apparently the Canadian canoe, had been lying upside down, out the back garden, for a couple of Summers. The suns UV rays, weakened the hull of the boat, so when it hit the bottom of the weir - SNAP!

I'll be covering my own boat up from now on, or else I'll have to keep it indoors (in the kitchen, please the missus, no end!)
