Yeah, so i just need to vent... Sorry.

But i got my exam results today and i didn't make it into the next year. I had to do 7 in 4 days and i only managed to pass 4 of those.
So i've gotta go back and repeat the 1st year all over again. If the college guys decide not to be **** and don't kick me out of the college (which they can very easily do).
So i've got a meeting with the college committee on monday where they'll probably rip into me for not passing and its not gonna be easy take to convince them to let me back in.

And yes, i'm pissed off... Really pissed off!!!
I just don't know what to do... I've had a bad year and to top it up, now this. I can put my hand of my heart and say this has been the worst year of my whole life!!

    Aah!!!:mad::mad::mad:

    SOrry for wasting your time...

Best thing you can do is try and focus on making a good case in front of the committee. Make out a plan to maximise time for your school work. Good luck.

    Hi OP

Sory to hear about your situation. Terrible timetable for the exams. They should have been more spread out to give you more time to prepare. Just think of this as turning the page and starting over. You are not off the course. Think of this as getting it right the second time out. You are familiar with the course layout and already have a head start that way. Good luck with it. It's just an extra year.

Thats what i'm trying to do...
I don't wanna sound like i'm making excuses, neither do i wanna sound like a complete waster...
It doesn't feel like its gonna be easy, i've done really bad this year...

OP this happened me in a course I wasn't all that sure about.

I had 7 exams, got B's in all except one which I failed by 2 marks, pleaded with the college to let me pass into the next year of the course but they refused. I re-evaluated my situation and discovered the course wasn't for me at all.

Long story short I got into a different course and I'm entering 4th year in two weeks and couldn't be happier. I know look back on that decision to leave as the major lucky break for me of the last few years. I'm not saying that this is what will work for you but things are never as bad as they first appear.

Just to say the same thing happened to me in first year college, failed everything with flying colours and had to repeat the whole year. Was absolutely awful at the time, didn't enjoy first year at all and had other problems which led me to fail it. Anyhoo, repeated the year, made loads of new friends, got a great degree in the end and stayed on for a Masters as well. In one way now I can see it was a great learning experience! So don't worry too much, it could be for the best in the end.

Were these your repeat exams? If so, why didn't you study?

I had to repeat second year - wasn't unfair, it was cuz I didn't open a book.

By the way, I'm not being facetious or "I told you so"-ing, but I'm wondering why you seem to feel hard-done-by... unless I'm missing something.

If your personal circumstances were crap this year, would you be able to give the college people some insight into that? It might give them cause for leniency.

Well mate, look carefully at it and decide do you really want to do this course. I finished last year and am fairly happy. Take a year out if you need to. If they don't let you back in then **** them. There are plenty of other collages out there.

So you've failed three exams then?

Can you not just repeat the three parts that you failed? That would be only a few hours a week and you'd be able to work a good lot of hours during the year, make yourself a bit of money before heading onto the next year.

    Good luck anyway!

take responsibility for your actions, if you really like your course, and want to succeed, then realise that you need to work hard to succeed in this life.

let this be the last time you feel annoyed over not preparing yourself.

learning to deal with failure is one of the key things to learn in life. its easy when things go well. when the chips are down and things don't go your way, what do you do? do you lay down and give up. or do you fight back and try even harder.

whatever prevented you from preparing for those exams, overcome it. many many people prepare for 7 exams in 4 days. sorry. but its true. if you are finding the curricumlum difficult, then get more organised, seek help early, and do consistent study every week during the academic year.

and at the end of the day, if you aren't able for the course, then its not the end of the world.

but if you are going to fail, fail knowing you gave it everything.

now, in front of the committee, realise that they are there to make sure that they have committed and motivated students on their course and that they don't waste the resources of the state on students that are going to waste the opporunities given to them. it isn't personal. thats their job.

if you appear to really want to succeed and acknowledge your mistakes, it is more than likely you will be given another chance.

    don't waste it.

I was in the same position as yourself except it was third year that I failed. Only realised after three years of study that I really hated the course and had only gotten that far by perserverance and extremely hard work. Anyway ditched it and did something totally different and now couldn't be happier.

You just have to ask yourself is this for me and will I give a s**t studywise if I repeat.

    to answer a few questions:

Well, first i was having a tough year. As i stated, this was the worse year of my life. I was just going through many personal problems n all. Life in and out of college had gotten pretty ****. I had gotten myself stuck in a rut. I couldn't get along with anyone in my class n i was losing interest really fast in college. I ended up in self sabotage and basically ruining my life myself.
Ended up not enjoying college and failing my exams. I am to blame here!

Then i managed to fix myself over the summer. But then i realised i had 7 exams to study for. I said to myself, okay, i can do this! and i started studying. I studied as much as i could and i actually started to enjoy my course and i got back interest in doing it. But then it was a little too late once again. I had to do all of those 7 exams in just 4 days. I gave it a good shot but some unexpected exam questions and doing 2 exams in 6 hours didn't quite help and i didn't make it though 3 of those.

So here i am. I've gotta repeat the whole year again. But to look at the bright side of it, i don't have to be with my crappy class mates anymore (whom i don't get along with) and i've got another chance to make fresh group of friends. I've also started to like my course now and i really wanna do it and finish it. I just hope the college guys don't decide to kick me out... well, i do deserve a 2nd chance!! Especially after i've made all the mistakes i could over the year and now have learnt from them and fixed myself back to win!

Yes, i went away to reflect back on what happened with a calmer mind and i do realise it was my own mistake that i got myself in this situation.
But for now i've gotta prepare to make sure i can convince the college guys to let me back in to repeat the year n not kick me out...
I don't wanna sound too gimmicky and too pretentious. Just genuine and hope they'll realise i was going through a bad year!

And, btw, i'm in med school. I've worked really hard for the past 3 years to get here. I can't just give up after once glitch. I've worked hard to get in here, i wanna be able to get through and get what i got in here for. I'm not gonna drop out or change my course. I've decided that. I like this, i've worked hard for this, i wanna continue in here.

When did you realise that you had 7 exams to study for and when did you start studying? My guess is that you were told relatively early in the summer which meant you would have had enough time to make out a study plan and get everything covered before your first exam.
As for having 7 exams in 4 days, it sucks (I know!) but loads of students manage it - this is why you need to plan and study well ahead of time. Ideally you shouldn't look at a book during the 24 hours before your first exam and make sure you're well fed, watered, rested and de-stressed (easier said than done).
Take this as needed motivation and ensure that during your repeat year you set yourself a plan and stick to it. I doubt that they would deny you a repeat year if you haven't had to repeat any others and have shown to applied yourself during the year. If you haven't applied yourself then you probably need to be asking yourself some tough questions about your suitability to the course and vis-versa.

I did find out i had 7 exams to study during mid June and i had 2 months to study for my exams. I did start in July but i wasn't very consistent at it and i didn't properly start studying till August, especially the last two weeks where i had to push myself into overdrive to get the stuff completed.

I'ld say i could have had a better chance of passing, i probably would have had passed if i had more time between exams. But then again talk is cheap.

I have been a lazy sloth all along. I lacked the motivation to study mostly due to the fact that i couldn't get myself to like my college even though i liked the course. I couldn't get along with most people in my class n all. Which made me lose interest in my college and yeah, i ended up becoming a sloth.
But i managed to fix myself over the summer, i was going to a counselor too, which i dunno how much it helped, but yeah, i managed to get my head screwed back on towards the start of August when i really realised i needed to start getting serious here and couldn't afford to waste time.
But guess, i couldn't manage to do it all in that month and i did get a little lazy again too...

But then finally these results were a good kick in the face for me. Reminding me what consequences my actions lead to. So i've decided to stop being lazy and start getting **** done!

Yes, again, talk is cheap... But i really want that second chance to prove myself and everyone else that i really can do it and get good marks. I've always been among the top 10% of my class all along. I know i am well capable of doing this course. I've just had to get my head screwed back on right and do it!

Well there ya go then. Don't make the same mistake twice and you'll be fine. You're not the first student to have to repeat a year and you certainly won't be the last.

Tbh, the numerous threads here seem to show that you over think waaaay too much. Stop analysing things and just enjoy life for a change.

tbh that many exams isn't ideal but you had the whole year and a extra two months to pull your socks up. alot of people go through alot of **** but just get on with it. if it was family circumstances, illness ect you could have got considerate but if it gf/bf woes, that doesn't cut the mustard as an excuse.

fair play for realising your mistake and i know its a bad kick in the teeth but its deserved and ou won't make the same mistake twice. I hope you'll get to redo the year, best of luck.

Sounds like a real hard-ass college if they'll kick you out for failing 3 exams. People in my year last year didn't go into class at all - maybe 3 classes all year. They failed the tests and didn't show for the resits. They're now repeating ( and will likely do the same again ).

Mind you, I'm in an IT.

    Sorry, stopped caring here.
What right have you to be pissed off with crap exams results when you did bugger all in preparation for them?

But i won't completely slate you, it's one thing to screw it up, and another thing to learn from your mistakes. So give it another go, put as much as you can into it...

... and best of luck. :)

Jayzus what college are you going to that they can kick you out for failing three exams?!

Most colleges will usually just get you to repeat the year/exams you failed...
