Yet another Stream C&C!

Inspired by the recent stream shots, I decided to give it a go. Taken yesterday just downstream of the main cascade at Glencar waterfall.

    D300, tripod, Sigma 10-20mm, ND4, f22, about 1.5s.

More or less straight out of camera except for crop and b/w in Capture NX.

I'm not sure about the brightest bits at the bottom of the fall, although NX doesn't see them as blown out, I think I just need to spend more time on PP to see if I can retrieve them.

What does you think? C&C positively encouraged :)

Really nice pic,to me the water is slightly blown out but not to bad!
For the record my screen is uncalibrated

Nice work, looks really good. I also think the water and reflection off the rocks is a bit overexposed, maybe altering the curves would make it even better? Also maybe cropping or cloning out the plant in the top right corner. Nice shot.

    Thanks guys,

    Missed the plant, top right:o

On a technical note, I was working in Aperture priority, matrix metering, am I better spot metering on the white water, or trying to compensate with the EC button?

This location is not to far away from me, so I'm going to go back for another go.

Incidentally, I know I should be shooting RAW, but my creaky old Elements 4 doesn't support the D300 NEF files (I have E7 on preorder) and I'm not that used to Capture yet.

Im no expert but I like the composition a lot! Really gives the impact of the fast flowing water.

A great attempt (note to self - remember to get that ND filter i've been meaning to get ;) )

In terms of composition, I wonder if a small bit more rock (just a little) would work better? To my Monday morning eye, the water is incredibly dominant in the image and while i really love candy-floss water shots, it just seems to be lacking in context i.e. the overall scene? That being said i think it only needs a little repositioning towards the top left. As an alternative to this, perhaps dropping the angle would give it more context and the resulting perspective would naturally reduce the dominance of the water.

Just a thought. A nice attempt overall.

This was the overall scene (at least the only shot I have handy on pixie), so I suppose I can engineer a better crop. I printed this one up to A4 on an A3 sheet on matte paper and it looks smashing. I've also just realised looking at these that I forgot to change the colour space before saving, so they look a lot flatter than the original.

I prefer the overall shot - it tells a story. My own personal preference.
