Does anyone else think that apple will release a small-form factor machine netbook like the eee pc/MSI Wind

I'd so love that especially if it had OSX on it.

Is it a market that apple would reach into??

I'm not sure whether it'd run full OSX or whether it would be more like a supersized iPhone.

I've got doubts it would happen - Apple has never been interested in these kind of "race to the bottom" (price-wise) trends that break out in the PC industry and I just don't see them as caring about it. I'd guess that Apple already considers the MacBook Air netbook competition in terms of portability though it costs 4x (if not more) the price of most of those systems.

On the other hand, they may finally introduce the mythical Mac OS X tablet, a device bigger than the iPhone and closer to full OS X functionality but with a cost closer to the $500 - $600 mark that would put it in the region of many netbooks. That's wishful thinking though on my part and I don't really think we'll see anything like that soon (just really hope it happens :)).

Of course, if what you really want is an Asus Eee running OS X, you could always roll your own:

Though I don't see the point since you end up breaking the whole "it just works" philosophy of Macs...

might i suggest people going and buying themselves 12" iBooks or PowerBooks.

Ok, slightly larger than the current trend, and maybe slightly heavier, but you're getting a decent keyboard - decent speed - decent ram - full connectivity - optical drive - nicer screen - the best OS out there AND top notch industrial design. Not to mention that they're going for round about netbook prices these days.

    just a thought.
