Pellet and Solar combination

I've got a quote of €18k (fitted) for above to heat a 2850sqf house, seems steep to me. Anyone gone down this road? The pellet only alternative is €10k.

I'm wondering if solar is worth the extra, seeing as the house will be very well insulated anyway.

A big house makes things expensive.Try to figure out your space heating demand. This is in principal the anual energy space heating demand per squaremeter and the max. heatload per squaremeter. These numbers will decide what your boiler size would have to be.Without these decimal numbers("metric" numbers) you won't have much choice on the thermal solar/heating/boiler market. Some older UK brands, some US brands. But the majority of the energy conscious boiler manufacturers use kW as the output and kW as the input unit. The input minus the output is determing the efficiency. Mind that your boiler must have a min. anual energy efficiency of 86% according to the building regulations. So in one sentence: you didn't suply enough data with your question to be answered. If your house is well insulated you need no boiler at all, a thermal solar system would be enough.

Absolutely 100 % agree - OP read through this - in particular the Construct Ireland link

    Divert your 18k towards

    1. insulation
    2. air tightness
    3. ventilation - heat recovery

Then ..... you just need to look after domestic hot water

Thanks guys. The house will be very well insulated, but short of passive. I'll need a heating system. Besides, I want a heating system, personal choice.
