Humour me :) is that an actual sound made by the workings of the camera or is it added for effect ?

Mirror up, two curtains of shutter going down, mirror down, wind film. I don't think it is artificial in my SLR.

It depends on the camera :

Digital P&S : just added in for effect
Digital SLR : it's the sound of the mirror/shutter curtain moving

It's made by the camera, but the sound does vary from camera to camera..

The 400D shutter sound is very electric sounding.. the 40D is a lot less, and the 1D is just orgasmic beautiful..

Actually I don't think any of the nikons sound so electric.. if anything, thats the only thing I like about nikons! :p

Yeah any Nikons I've used just made a sharp click-clack noise. What really irritates me is TV shows (like TV3's horrendous "xposé") with fake fake fake fake fake camera noises every few seconds
