Yep, saw the pilot a few months ago and loved it.

Not much difference between the pilot and the broadcasted version (changed soundtrack, changed title sequence, a few changed/tweaked scenes and updated effects).

The good thing about Fringe is that it gives you a peek at a bigger mythology (a bit like the Lost and Alias pilots) and leaves you wanting more.

I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.

    (Thread renamed for ongoing discussion....)

Yep, loved it. Looking forward to episode 2 next week.

Enjoyed it - wouldn't say love just yet. For fans of 'Alias' and 'Lost' play spot the numbers from the two shows!

I liked some things about it, but overall it wasn't great. John Noble was excellent as the Doctor, the rest of cast were just ok. The shaky 'hand-held' style camerawork gets annoying very quickly. But similar to Lost, they cathc you with an intriguing mystery, and then don't resolve it properly.

I liked it, At the risk of sounding sexist I'm more often then not put off by show's with a female lead (Well just Bones Springs to mind) I kinda llike Joushoua Jackson for some strange reason. I'll def stick with it and would advise ppl to give it a look

It had a bad opening night (in JJ Abrams terms!) ... Don't forget its on Fox too.... It better improve quickly or .... (dramatic pause)
J.J. Abrams' new drama lets down Fox.

In J.J. Abrams terms, the Fringe debut was a flop. Only 9.1 million people watched it, according to Nielsen, a number Fox was hoping would have a "1" in front of it. That breaks down to just above one dollar per set of eyes, if the alleged $10 million price tag for the pilot is to be believed.

The heavily hyped program was one of the season's most eagerly anticipated, or so we thought. By comparison, Lost, another J.J. product, debuted in 2004 to a whopping 18.6 million viewers. In fact, no first-run episode--season premiere or otherwise--of Lost has drawn less than 10 million (as The Washington Post points out), and that includes the numbers from season three, when the show was thought to have lost its way.

It's probably unfair to compare Fringe to Lost or assume that everything J.J. Abrams puts his name on is ratings dynamite, but something is amiss. People seem to like Fringe, and it currently holds an 8.0 rating on TV.com. Was it the less-than-stellar reviews? Was it the fact that it leaked online months ago? Is it those darned digital video recorders all you whippersnappers are using nowadays? It's probably a combination of all three, but I'd love to hear your theories

it seems to be same old same old, i got fed up with alias at the end wehn all that build ending with floating reds balls, and now he done lost it will endless disappointments and more things were supposed to chase up online.

although i thought it was ok

so shes about ten years older then bailey and yerman was ten years older then her.

Thought it was pretty poor. They're clearly trying to be the new X-Files but failing badly or else they've no idea how to make such a scenario work or have just ineptly attempted to copy the formula.
I can't see it lasting for long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,354 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

I for one enjoyed it... As long as you don't read too much into it it's quite entertaining...

One thing did annoy me, the music was very lost like... I hope Kirk Acevado (he was in Oz too) gets a decent size role...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,871 ✭✭✭Conor108

Okay saw it last night and yeah it was OK. I'll watch another episode or 2 but it might not be my kinda show. We'll see

Was their much difference between the leaked pilot and the aired one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭ShoulderChip

    look at post 2.

    Cheers,didn't notice it!

What did we think of episode 2? I only got round to watching it last night but enjoyed it nonetheless.

Not as impressive as the pilot.. but entertaining nonetheless. Far-fetched but very entertaining. Though the story reminded me a lot of 'The Inside'.

Have a feeling John Noble is going to be the star of the show!

Second episode got better ratings too.. (thanks to 'House' I'd say) but I really have a bad feeling Fox is gonna carry out the inevitable on this before season end. I really hope not..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

I liked it - it was more of a standalone episode, "freak of the week" kinda thing which I've heard this show is going for (so that's it more like the X-Files, than Lost which is so heavily serialized) but it still had elements of the larger mythology they started to set up in the pilot. I just hope it does keep the larger picture in mind and doesn't veer into Smallville territory which only really refers to the main story arc in the season premiere/finale and the rest is all "freak of the week" episodes. I'm worried about it lasting though - it is after all pretty sci-fi/supernatural for Fox...

Dr. Bishop had the best line of the night again (like last week's "I've pissed myself") when referring to how wonderful the car's seat warmer was, cause it heats your ass :).

Anyway apparently it's the number 1 show in America right now. It's from the creators of Lost so who knows what to expect.

My cousins just sent me the 1st (pilot - 1h 22mins) and the 2nd normal running time of 49 mins - adverts.

Watching the 1st thought it was very exciting reminded me of lost in so many ways, it's very witty and intelligent writing and it makes for a good watch + the action.

Anyway I can see a sub forum coming soon for this, will report back after the 2nd episode.

Just after watching episodes 1 and 2, really enjoying it.

So much to go on with the Massive Dynamics story and the background there. It will be interesting to see if we get to meet William Bell and the kind of role he will play.

I've noticed that they are ending the tv shows with a particular symbol.
A leaf and an apple core...I presume that there will be more but it is a fun little feature of the show.

I can see that they are putting in little hints that the doctors son may have been artificially created.

There seems to be a lot of money behind this so hopefully they wont cancel the show. It should at least get a full series.

Edit: Unsurprisingly (for most) there is a website for massive dynamic up - http://www.massivedynamic.com/

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,942 ✭✭✭missingtime

Along with the massive dynamic website it would appear there are other websites springing up.

    http://www.fringebloggers.com/fringe-viral-glowingmonkeyscom/

http://imaginetheimpossibilities.com - keep clicking next and there are more videos

I love this type of stuff. It makes the whole experience more interactive or something.

Your right. It's not on FX at all, it's on Sky1. I was thinking of Breaking Bad (another series which I hear is very good) which is on FX soon.

It will be interesting to see if we get to meet William Bell and the kind of role he will play.
One of the creators of the show said in an interview recently that the actor that'll be playing William Bell doesn't yet know that they're playing him.

Does this mean that it's someone that we've already seen in the show or do they have an actor signed but haven't let on to him that he's playing someone else? Or is it just more dis-information?

Or will William Bell be Fringe's Alvar Hanso?

Watched both episodes last night and loved both of them, Yeah, it a bit far fetched, but arent most of these american shows. I am really looking forward to seeing episode 3 this week. Love the way you are left hanging for the next episode too

It's referred to as "imagery".. quite like them myself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 619 ✭✭✭krpc

Thought the show was class and I'm hopeful that it will get better.

Walter is such an amusing character; I was quite surprised considering I thought John Noble, the actor who plays Walter, was disastrous in Lord of the Rings and Stargate SG-1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,187 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Really enjoyed episode 3... John Noble really is fantastic in the role.

Ratings are down from last week.. back to the level of the pilot. 9.6 million or so.

Find it to be a bit of a modern x-files style myself. One thing i relly like about it is the way the names of the locations are done in huge 3d letters. Just a nice touch

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,942 ✭✭✭missingtime

Episode 3 was good again. They really emphasize the use of drugs legal or otherwise and the benefits that they can have.

Some great humour when they were drilling into that guys head.

Does anyone know the what the imagery was in this episode?

Lol, i think he could receive sattellite television (good line)
Anyway seen Ep3 there and liked it, roll on 4

It's a shame for them that most of us interweb inclined people have watched it already won't be bothered with TV3 ;)

Starting on TV3 on Wednesday at 10pm.

Episode 3 was pretty good too - I'm liking this show so far but it's not good to hear that the ratings are not great in the US... it could get the chop very soon and I think it does need a full season at least to flesh out the bigger underlying mysteries though every episode has been pretty well self-contained so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,187 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Changed title to reflect this is solely for discussion of the show as it's airs on US television..

.. and last night's episode was supposed to be terrific!

    Last nights episode was Ok
    Episode 2 was terrific

I am getting tired of Dawson Creek & his old man, they seem quiet limited and formulaic characters despite some all too easy gems from the scientist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Personally I thought episode 2 wasn't very good,3 was a little better but last ngiht's episode 4 was really good. It had that really good X-Files conspiracy feel to it. It was a "what the hell is going on" type of episode. Hoepfully it will continue with stories like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,187 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Episode 2 was the weakest so far too IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Full season picked up...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,187 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Great news..

Wasn't as bowled over with episode 4 as I expected, but very good nonetheless.

Not on next week.. back on Fox 14th October.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭madrab

Just before i watched episode 4 last night i said "ok we are hitting ep 4, should be about time they introduced some long running arc/conspiracy" & i was pleased to find out it was true :-)

    Enjoying this series so far
