well, i want to do radiography, which went up to 510 this year, seriously considering going to scotland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,944 ✭✭✭Jay P

Aiming for 560. Actuary Studies in UCD would be great, but if I don't get it I won't cry. Plan B is maths in either UCC or UCD :D As long as I'm ot in Galway, I'm happy out!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭K-Bowie

hopefully the 500+ mark and aiming for maybe BESS in Trinity or if I do really well Med in Imperial College London!!! And if everything fails Arts UCD :D

385 for Social Science in NUIM. Maybe 400 to be safe. I really need to work though!

Actuarial & Financial Studies in UCD is what I'm currently aiming for but probably won't get. Probably Mathematical Science in UCD after that.

I want to do medicine in trinity, and cos no-one knows what kinda points will be needed I guess I'll just have to aim as high as possible.

Science in Trinity at 415. I should be able to get 5 A's easily. I'm waiting to see how my Christmas exam goes first to decide on my goal.

    It's easy for some

The most I can get is 560 but I don't care what result I receive as long as I get whatever course I go for.

Law in any of the nui colleges.
Prob not Trinity because the points are a bit high and more importantly. . . . . . .
To become a lawyer or teacher in this country, you must be competent at both Irish and English(and maths for a teacher).
All teaching and law colleges reguire you pass Irish for that very reason. . . except Trinity because of its unionism.Sorry about that rant, but to be a lawyer you must be able to speak Irish, but the officials at Trinity are to good for that.

Many students who hate Irish love Trinity's matriculation requirements simply because they don't designate it as mandatory ... which is the main reason in this ultra-pragmatic age why they retain that policy, it gives them a competitive edge.

Oh, I'm sure there are a few old fossils holed up in a corner somewhere in the college who would get upset if that "foreign tongue" Irish was made mandatory for Matriculation, but the reality is that many of Trinity's lecturers and officers speak excellent Irish, and some of them would be strong supporters of and workers for the language ... in fact, I suspect there are more of the latter in Trinity than in most Irish colleges.

And just because they don't require it doesn't mean that Trinity will discriminate against you because you do well in your LC Irish ... so what's stopping you getting that A1 and still doing Law in Trinity?

I actually hope you like computers and are willing to work hard unless ofcourse you can already do some programming because I really disliked it and ended up droping out last year and i'm repeating the leaving this year as a result. You should really look into the carrer prospects for CS graduates

And whats the logic behind you need to be fluent in Irish too become a lawyer my brother and I were both educated in the UK all our lives and now he's a qualified lawyer working for one of the biggest companies in Ireland.

I'm not expressing my opinions here.By law, lawyers must speak Irish competently.

To do the blackhalls they just have to do a really easy irish test.
Very difficult to fail and students can do it in first year college when its still fresh in the mind.

This is not true. Regardless of the irrelevance of talking about becoming a teacher, there is no such thing as "a lawyer" in Ireland. The Irish matriculation requirement for the Bar, for example, is about the level of the Higher-Level oral exam. You pass it and you need not speak a word of Irish again. Also, being "a lawyer" is increasingly external to the traditional solicitor and barrister roles.
All teaching and law colleges reguire you pass Irish for that very reason. . . except Trinity because of its unionism.
How much do you know about Trinity and unionism? Do you know much about the Provost? A Mayo man, who went to NUIM and has a son named Ciaran? The laws of the College date back to 1592. They're so antiquated and unwieldy that after the Universities Act 1997, TCD needed its own Act passed to accommodate its old laws. Do you know about the Scéim that gives preference for on-campus accommodation to those who agree to promote Gaeilge?

Of course you don't. It's more fun to assume an institution that you know nothing about is old and unionist and those old crusty conservatives in the Law School like Ivana Bacik like nothing more than to beat the natives when they're down. That's why the Law School never appoints anyone with nationalist tendencies such as the last two presidents or the Minister for Finance. Sure what'd a former Chief Justice have to do with those lads anyway? When you intermingle TCD's history with its current rules, you're being oblivious to the fact that institutions might have more important things to do than go about requiring Physics student speak Irish.

You're talking pure and utter shit. Why would spew such bile about something you know nothing about?
Prob not Trinity because the points are a bit high
    Oh, that might explain something.

    Bitter much?

Pharmacy in UCC hopefully. Was 555* this year so I need 570 to be completely safe in case the points increase. I will hopefully get the points if everything goes right this year for me and Im able to calm down and relax ( I suffer from anxiety problems which I havent mentioned before).

In making up my mind I'm somewhere between wanting to do music in DIT and English with either French or German in Trinity. I'd need 550 for the latter to be comfortable but I'm just trying to get as high as possible and hope a good leaving will stand to me :)
