Charging question

    Hey guys and dolls.

Yesterday i took some photos at a companies Autumn lineup launch where they had a supplier in showing off the products on a stage and gave a talk on the products etc.

stupidly enough i didn't sign/make up a contract for it and now they are looking for how much i owe them. now i see these as being a good customer in the future so i don't want to charge too much but then again i don't want to charge less than the going rate which since i've never done anything like this before is hard to calculate.

i'll give the low down on what i did.

was on site from 1pm to 5pm.
photos were taken from 2pm to 5pm.
presentation was from 3pm to 4:30pm

roughly 500 shots were taken and the customer wishes to keep all photos in unedited form.
they've also picked 20 photos they want me to clean up and edit ready for printing which they can do themselves.

anyone have any idea of what i'm looking at here?

if more information is require just shout :)

How much would you earn for the same amount of time in your day job? That figure should give you a starting point, add in something for the use of your gear and time for PP.

If you are getting cash then maybe you can go a bit easier on them.

I have a price list made up for anyone requesting it, I based my price list on an average photographers price from searching the net and discounting it in places by up to 20%.

I have never charged that amount, honestly I charge 'f' all as I feel terrible charging as I usually know the people. I am guessing your client wants these images on disc. The price I listed is 300 euro for 2 hours work on a disc pack, 100 euro per hour thereafter. Although I do think under some circumstances this is quite low and I have had a bit of backlash from the in laws who use photographers for business purposes saying that this are ridiculously low. I guess you gotta think what value would you put on the work.

Thought it was a battery q. too.

From just seeing your hours, and being too tired to read over the rest of the thread, 300 quid.
