Eurogamer just released info on how much WipeOut HD is going to cost: 12GBP, which XE.com tells me is €15.10. (Some one on NeoGaF has a price of €17.99 listed, hmmm.)

I imagine we can expect a release date to be announced for this soon so. I sure hope I'm not the only one who's seriously looking forward to this game, I'm sure it'll become my favourite PSN game.

For those of you unable to access pages due to work etc:

Sony has announced that WipEout HD will cost GBP 11.99 when it launches, but the release date has yet to be confirmed.

WipEout HD is 60 frames-per-second, 1080p downloadable PS3 take on the classic futuristic racing series, featuring tracks borrowed from the excellent PSP duo, WipEout Pure and Pulse.

The game was held up recently by a specific technical problem - believed to be a failed safety test for epilepsy.

However, Sony went on to deny that, claiming the real reason for the delay was to add new features like Trophy support, eight reverse tracks, four extra tracks and two-player split-screen.

Whatever the reality, you can expect to read our review of the finished game very soon, and can check out our WipEout HD hands-on preview in the meantime.

If you've watched any of the trailers you'll understand my excitement. I'm thinking it'll see a late October release at the very latest.

I shall have to procure that...

I'd love to know how they did the test for epilepsy, perhaps a room full of people playing Wipeout HD on PS3s whilst wearing crash helmets and a gum shield, then count the ones who drop?

I like the fact you can load your own music tracks and the spectrum analysers are built into the walls and adjust accodingly. Motion control is supposed to be pretty sweet too and is a big advantage over the d-pad when it comes to pitch, and your pad will rumble too if you are not sitting on the track perfectly. I am gagging for this game:D

I didn't know a lot of that, awesome!

I was starting to think this game doesn't exist, and is just some sort of marketing campaign. Exchange rate will probably be lopsided.... but i'd resigned myself to a price of 30 euro, or perhaps even more.

wah? no way, a HD remake of an old game? I'd say it will be €20, the same as Tekken 5.

Not really looking forward to the Sixaxis motion control, not enough feedback in any software that makes it desirable.
In fact the only controller so far that made the game more intuitive was the neGcon back in the day.
But still, lets hope the track design is better than Wipeout Fusion and more like Wipeout 3 SE and Wipeout Pure.

The original 8 tracks are lifted from Pure and Pulse, so no worries about track design there :)
Not sure what the story is with the 4 new tracks that they mention above though, but I'm assuming that they're just another 2 from each game...
Can't wait for this! I've lost count of the times that I've watched the trailer with the Kraftwerk remix and just sat there drooling:p

Yeah, it was always so tied into the music, I recall going out and buying the soundtrack on CD when I bought the original back in the day, then buying Orbital, they did Petrol and Leftfield, they contributed Afroleft.

Will this game be the only example of the series on the PS3 or a GT5 style "prologue" before the proper release of an entirely new addition to the Wipeout series?

You're already looking for the next release and this isn't even out yet? :pac: Well as L31mr0d mentioned, Tekken: DR Online is a PSP port to PS3 just like WipeOut HD (kinda) is. So maybe we'll hear something about a full PS3 WipeOut game soon after this release like we did with Tekken 6 after Tekken: DR Online was released.

Unfortunately, I don't think the WipeOut series is popular enough to warrant a 'Prologue' version, but hey, you never know.

Wipeout was the first game I played on my PS (I'm sure that it's the same for many other here). Hadn't been playing videogames for a few years at that stage so I'd kinda lost touch of what had been going on. I remember being absolutely blown away by the whole thing. Couldn't believe that games had come so far in such a short space of time.

This is a definite purchase for me.

These guys reckon the motion control makes the game as you get to control the pitch of the vehicle.

I read somewhere the release date on PSN for US and Europe was the same day. The 26th September I think.

I'm in the same boat myself ,the original game always reminded me of the music that I use to love back then.

I think it will make a lot of ps fans happy.

Out on European PSN from this Thursday!!

    http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/09/15/wipeout-hd-brings-hyper-racing-home-on-september-25/

That and Pure will be 2 games worth getting I reckon.

20 notes a little high but should recoup with many hours kicking my bros ass online !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,971 ✭✭✭Flaccus

I think it's good value considering the tracks, 1080p 60fps, improved control system, custom tracks etc.. Hopefully a proper followup will be out early next year.

Hurry up and update the ps3 store already, sony. It'll probably take forever to download as is, I wouldn't mind a head-start.

Isn't it updated at about 6pm?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭whitetrash

Probably, but I can still hope can't I? It'd nice to be actually able to play it on it's release date. Even better would be a steam-style pre-load system.

Its gonna be great! Last wipeout game i played was 2097 back in the day, Fantastic stuff!!
Anybody up for a few races late tonight?:pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,971 ✭✭✭Flaccus

I am for sure assuming my router isn't acting the maggot.

Can't wait for this. Absolutely gagging for it :D

2097 was one of the best wipeouts ever..wasn't that the one with the Prodigy's Firestarter. Pure class.

if the download is being performed in the background, i presume you can play a game at the same time?

Dunno - i've found that doing that pauses downloads for me - they resume automatically when the game is exited.

it seems to depend actually. I think if the game supports online play it pauses the download. I usually just tap the PS button when in the game and check that my download is still progressing

surprise....surprise..full motion control is tricky and tires my wrists in no time. will stick with just motion pitch control. what are people making of this so far?

Haha, good luck with that! 2% down after 5 minutes myself.
Have been getting nice and quick downloads from the PSN recently, but I'd say it's getting hammered at the moment.

    Really looking forward to this:)

Not really a wipeout fan (prefer F-Zero) but i've been hearing so many good things about this and the price is so cheap that I may give it a whirl.

    Love it.

For anyone having slow downloads, I disabled the ps3 wifi and ran it through my laptop via ethernet instead. Went a lot faster. A lot.

I'm running wifi and its quick enough for me ,over halfway after about 20 minutes

I can't get over how good the revamped 'Zone' mode is, my jaw just hit the floor. It's like the old Zone mode meets Audiosurf, absolutely amazing. I can't wait to get a HDTV and see it in its full 1080p glory.

I couldn't connect to any online matches though, I guess the servers were probably just overwhelmed or something.

    I'm just so happy :D
