We are restarting the city center classes after the summer break, returning to the Fitness Dock Gym on Camden Street Saturday mornings 10am. These classes will focuse on Felix Valencia Lameco Eskrima and be covering the various phases on the syllabus. The Lameco is divided into three section (Knife / Cane / Empty Hands) each having 3 phases (Beginner / Intermediate / Advance). We planing to bring Felix back next summer and hope to have a number of students ready for the student and instructor grading programme.

Valencia Lameco doesnt have many form instead focus on developing responses in the student. Its a very streamline combat art. We set up 3 training groups in Ireland (Dublin, Ballymena, Wexford) to help with the development of the art here in Ireland. If any one interested in learning Lameco or would like to attend the saturday morning classes send me a PM
    and I send more details.

    Hi Sorgan

Training in normal classes students would learn combat application in all 3 areas i.e Knife, Stick and Empty Hands so they can get a more all rounded feel to their training. There are very few forms in Valencia Lameco, and students have to applied everything in real time. The ideal of V.L is to develop a student responses to various situation, and for the student to be equally comfortable in all areas. As as a student progresses from one stage to another, students are pressure tested to make sure they know the techniques. and be able to applied them. All the techniques are very simple and direct, and they do allow personal choice i.e not set in stone as each person is different.

If a students wants to grade than there is an order 1. Knife 2. Stick 3 Empty Hands. These are divided into 3 phases to help students through the programme. At the end of each section each student has to spar 10 rounds and demonstrate his ability and knowledge.

    Quick Overview

    Knife Phase 1
    Footwork
    Knife Grips
    Drills
    Stalements

    Knife Phase 2
    Hold Up Defences
    Drills
    Ground defence against Knife
    High Speed Takedowns

    Knife Phase 3
    Long Range Knife Defences
    Leg Attack Defences
    Torso Attack Defences
    Head Attack Defences
    Limb Attack Defences

    Complete 10 rounds of sparring

This is a overview of the knife programme, hope this helps. Feel free to ask any other questions.

I thought to save some of the posters emailing me the same questions. I could answer here and save time.

Can I just pay as you go?

Unfortunately this is a 5 week course, and its run by myself and the gym and like most course you pay up front. Its only a 5 class commitment.

Can I can along and watch?
Again for insurance, no spectators are aloud in the studio when a class is taking part. Anyway its better to train than watching other train.

    What will I learn?
Its Lameco Eskrima, you will gain an understanding of the fundalmentals of this art. You will learn some of the basic footwork, grips, disarms and some common defences for stalemates and hold ups. Along with this we will teach some basic cross overs from Silat. Again its only 5 classes, the ideal of this is give you a intro or overview of what we do after this if you're interested you can join up to a longer programe and get a better understanding of the art.

I've never done Eskrima can I still do the course
    Yes its an introductory!

I hope this may help some of the people thats interested. I only arrange a 5 week course so people could experience the art without making a big commitment

    Hello there Liam

Over the years there is no doubt you have been instrumental in introducing south asian martial arts to Europe and Ireland. However, I hope you will clarify few issues regarding Lameco Escrima. Felix Valencia is respected as a top class martial artist and his reputation speaks for itself. I'm curious that such a man whoI believe is a natural fighter from undefeated Dog Brother matches, a member of the hard core Lameco Sulite Orihinal Group (SOG). I am curious as in why Beginner, Intermediate and advanced is advertised based on this fella's experience and knowledge within such a short time in and already training groups are expanding. I know personally Edgar Sulite worked his ballacks off to create a system as well as others have. You are respected by your teacher as a main a senior teacher in Silat and obviously put the work in to achieve that status.

I have concerns that a seminar was advertised which led to evangilising a system that proclaims an advanced level thats also on the spread.

An open question; What is the definition of a fighter?

    Hi Aiodhan

To be honest as Sorgan wrote I'm unsure what you are asking here??? If its something to do with Beginner, intermediate, and advance thats the stage all students go through, thats the order. I don't teach advance concepts to beginners. Over time students develops. There no point in bringing in a student who has no experience in Eskrima and making them going full contact.
So to help me, to help students in a training enviroment I used these three stages. All students who want to pass there instructor grade will be personally graded by Guru Felix.

If this is something about me teaching Valencia Lameco in Ireland, and its put your nose out of joint, about training groups being set up and expanded, than I'm sorry. I advertise for months about bringing Felix Valencia over to Dublin, he was here for nearly two weeks. I open up the workshop to everyone. I didnt see you at any time during the event. Felix will be back again early next year and you are more than welcome to put your concerns to him directly, about me and Guru Edgar.

In the mean time, I was given full permission by Guru Felix after a week long testing, to established Valencia Lameco in Ireland and to set up training groups. I have a writen letter and certificate. You can again contact him directly if needed before that. Just for the record I started training in Eskrima in 1992 and taught seminars in Dublin in 1993.

I hope this answer your the questions you were asking, but it was confusing.

    Regards

    Liam

Aiodan7 I think that there a few other people who have been instrumental in S.E.A martial arts at a higher level,as competition at a World level.Along with in a great depth knowledge.

    Frank Mc Conville
    Dave Joyce

to name but two people who have brought these arts to Ireland. All so fought in Thailand and the Philli islands,as well as being taught there.

Also a former World Heavy Weight stick champion who fought in the home land of the art.

Then there is an other guy who is into Silat, who has fierce info in these arts too.

What about these guy's........these guys fight

Liam! Look at my open statement, I can assure you my nose is not out of joint ( well apart from being suckered a while back) I'm curious about the levels of progression, with the exception of being defensive, you answered which was sound! As an Ilustrisimo player I would be over th moon to learn what Edgar developed, and it was sad that I missed his UK seminar due to his passing.

Felix came over to Ireland to teach a seminar! I was curious about the levels of progression. (no hidden agenda).

I wish I could have attended the Lameco seminar and would be more than willing to particpate in the future. I'm always up for the learning. I come from
