    Hi all,

I was wondering are there any town planners out there who could give me a couple of pointers on how to get into this field of work. Where are the best courses? Books to read? Any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Please move if it is.

    Thanks,

    Deedsie

I'm a 4th year student of Spatial Planning and Environmental Management in D.I.T. Bolton St. Worked in Limerick City Planning Dept. this summer so I got a feel for the job out of college.

Anything in particular that you want to know?

I believe UCD is one of the best places in the UK and Ireland to study town planning. They have a 2 year masters course in rural and urban planning. Very tough to get in to though.

UCD is very much theory based, in DIT much more practical work is included.

TBH I have spoken to Senior Planners who sit on interview boards and they would rank the DIT qualification above the UCD one.
