Came across this thanks to someone on the Film forum and watched it last night.

You can get it on google video in whole or in youtube in parts.

It's a documentary about the treatment of animals, divided into 5 sectionsnamely pets, entertainment, food etc.

One of the best documentaries I've ever seen.

Music by Moby and narrated by Joacquin Phoenix.

Watch it as soon as you get a chance, though I'm sure many of you here have already seen it.

i've heard about it but don't feel the need to watch it. the scenes can be a bit disturbing (i hear). up to the individual.

I can't bear to watch any kind of mistreatment of animals in any way so I won't be watching it.

Very true Sweet, was just putting it out there as a suggestion.

Funny though, it was a documentary similar to this that I watched when I was 14 that made decide to become vegetarian.

I'd say this one had the same effect on many other people.

I also think that people who eat meat would benefit from knowing where their meat, poultry and fish come from.

Yes, I was in fact told about this documentary by a meat eating friend. After watching it she said that she would like be become vegetarian, but one year later... no change :) I suppose it did inspire her.

Of course, there's no point in letting idiots watch it, eh cozmik? You wouldn't have the intellectual capability to comprehend the films' message tbh.

I think the best thing to do with that troll is press your ignore button.

Is this the same that is on the PETA website?
If not, I watched that once and that was very rough going. It's amazing what companies get away with. What I'd really like to know is that while we know this stuff is going on abroad, what are things like in Ireland? My grandad was a butcher for 60 years (ironic that I'm a veggie) and he would've been in and out of abattoirs. He never saw anything particularly bad.

If this is the site you saw, then yeah, that's it. http://www.petacatalog.org/prodinfo.asp?number=VP546

It is tough going. That's probably the reason why most meat eaters don't see an animal when they sit down to dinner. They just see meat. They don't make the connection between what's on their plates and what's grazing in the fields while they go for a Sunday drive.

This is of course intentional. If people did have a greater idea as to what goes on behind the doors and windowless walls of abbatoirs, I think the meat industry would lose a lot of customers over night.

It's too easy to ignore something when it's hidden from you.

I'M SORRY! I CAN'T HELP EATING MEAT, EVEN IF I KNOW WHERE IT COMES FROM! SPARE ME PLEASE!

    I don't think so, I know farmers.
Most people genuinely just don't care.

Why are you shouting? If you want to be spared discussion on veg*n topics try not reading this forum.

And eating meat is a choice for most all people. You can indeed be help yourself if you want to.

This must be a very perplexing thread for those with a binary world view.

    Hola Moonbaby! :D
I have a one-word response to your short-sighted thinking: sauce.

That's right, sauce. Most people think that cows are delicious maybe you just need to try some sauce with yours :)

Hey but seriously I think the best thing for you is to take your preconceptions about me, and your prejudice elsewhere.

Cozmik - you are going too far. Consider this a warning.

Keep on topic all; this is a discussion about the film "Earthlings". Have you watched it? What's your opinion?

And where's the warning for this?

She asked me to deal with this, both you and the others, in a PM this morning.

Another off topic post is a ban dynastygal. Talk via pm, not via thread.

Saw it about a year ago, horrifying stuff. I think in this case it's less 'animals = meat' as it does 'badly treated animals > horrible death > meat' which is the traumatising thing. It's the cruelty, not the death that makes me sick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 645 ✭✭✭rockmongrel

So I just got around to watching this, seriously distressing stuff. But well worth the watch if you can stomach it.

Isaac Bashevis' quote really sums it up - "In their behavior toward creatures, all men are Nazis. Human beings see oppression vividly when they're the victims. Otherwise they victimize blindly and without a thought."

I've been a vegetarian for the past 2 years, now I've decided to go vegan.

is it really necessary to read through all that crap there, why isnt that stuff just removed.

never heard of this but then I don't ever feel the need to watch that kind of stuff

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 63 ✭✭dynastygal

Why don't you feel the need? It's important for everyone to see it.

dont think I really need to justify not watching those kinds of things when I am vegetarian anyway :P

It'll show you what goes on in dairy and egg industries. I watched it as a vegan. It just further confirmed my need to stay vegan.
