“The Eclipse” is shooting in Cobh between September 1st and October 3rd 2008. I'd say that's what they were filming. Taken from here
Below is a short introduction to the film:
Michael Farr has started to wonder if his life adds up. He has a
beautiful wife, Eleanor, and two great kids Sarah and Tom. He is a
respected schoolteacher in his local school and an active member of
his local community but somehow he’s beginning to ask himself
questions about the meaning of it all. Growing up in small town
Ireland he and his close friends had dreams of greatness and breaking
free of their hokey small-town roots. Under the spell of local artist
Malachy, they held boozy artists gatherings where they read aloud
great literature and sometimes shared their own fumbling imitations of
their heroes. In those days they were all going to go on to great
things and build adoring audiences for their work. In the way of these
things their youthful dreams have passed and now in middle age their
writers group has evolved into the town’s annual literary festival.
Michael and his friends from the early days are members of its
unwieldy committee, all their dreams of being writers subsumed into
the harsh reality of keeping their lives on track and paying the
bills. At least the annual festival gives them the chance to rub
shoulders with what they might have been in another life, the life of
    their youthful dreams…
The Eclipse marks the first cinematic collaboration between two of
Ireland’s leading writers Billy Roche (The Wexford Trilogy,
Cavalcaders, Trojan Eddie) and Conor McPherson (The Weir, Dublin
Carol, The Seafarers, I Went Down, Saltwater, The Actors) who co-wrote
the screenplay which is based on a short story from Billy Roche’s
recently published collection Tales From Rainwater Pond. The film will
be Conor McPherson’s fourth as a director after Saltwater, Endgame and
    The Actors.

They have been around for a few weeks now, Ciaran Hinds and Aidan Quinn are starring in it. They must be staying nearby, does anyone know where?:o
