I was just reading the thread about cheese before you go to bed gives you nightmares and a lot of old urban myths that was told to me when i was younger came to mind such as if you crack your fingers you'll get arthritis, i always believed this and was always scared to crack my fingers.
Other myths I believed were eating carrots improves your eyesight, casinos pump oxygen into the gaming floors to keep people from getting tired, eating poppy seeds on food like bagels and muffins can produce postive results on drug screening tests.
Is there any myths that you believed in or still believe and are they true or false??

I think the cheese one is true. I get crazy nightmares if I have a cheese binge late night

Yeah we thought that if you turned your eyes up to heaven and pulled your nose up like a pig at the same time and then if someone slapped your back while doing that your face would stay that way!

Or if you said bloody mary 3 times while looking in the mirror in the dark then she would appear behind you.
I still cant look in a mirror or have a mirror near me when in a dark room!

The cheese one is total bollocks. If anything, it makes you sleep better.

The casino one is partially true. There's no windows or clocks in the betting areas in Vegas so you don't know what time it is. You also get free drinks as soon as you part with the smallest of cash to get you drunk. It's also better air conditioned than the rest of the hotel is so that you'll associate pleasant times and comfort with the betting area.

I remember a friend's mother telling us this. Three months later a family with a blind kid moved in up the road.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    That's rubbish ....

That only happens if you don't pay the newborn's fare.

Other myths I believed were eating carrots improves your eyesight, ?

I believe that one was propagated by the British government. They said their gunners were able to shoot down the German planes because they were on a diet of carrots which were good for their eyesight. But in reality they'd been using a new technology called Radar.

The cheese one is true, if I eat cheese before bed I have really bad nightmeres.. Isn't it supposed to send you into a deeper sleep or something.. Maybe it's a placebo effect or something but either way, it aint nice..

I was always under the impression that if you dropped a big ripe shíte in the morning, you were set up for the day.

I took a dump in the works shítter this morning and am feeling like hammered shít right now:confused:

This is true, even one bagel is enough to produce positive results. I had a pre employment drug screening for my job a few months ago, had a bagel on Wednesday and drug test on Friday. I asked the doctor and laughed about it but she said it could very well show up but it didn't in my case. Probably out of my system by then. :) Most places can tell the difference and have limits to identify false positives.

Carrots, vitamin A, A good for eye health. If you lack vitamin A it does actually improve your eyesight. For most it won't.

casinos pump oxygen into the gaming floors to keep people from getting tired

this is supposedly true, they are well air conditioned anyway and without windows etc it could be 6pm in the evening or 6am in the morning and you would barely notice the difference.

also the free drinks they give out are to keep you at the tables. as soon as you start gambling most casinos will offer you free drinks, but they take forever to bring the drinks once you have ordered. 'apparently' this is so you will stay there waiting for your drinks, and also so if you are losing money you feel you are getting something for it.

eating poppy seeds on food like bagels and muffins can produce postive results on drug screening tests.

this is definitly true. poppy seed bagels will make you test positive for Opioids (heroin or moprhine).

but so will solpadeine, nerofen plus, panadeine, etc. basically anything with codeine in it will show up as Opioids (heroin or morphine) on a drug test. so quite a few over the counter drugs will give you positive results if you were to take a drug test. there is something that shows up for amphetameines but i cant remember what it is.

most comapnies that request you do a medical that requires a drug test will tell you not to take any medication prior to it as they can give false positives. so i wouldnt panic if you did a drug test for a medcial and it came back positive as they are aware it can happen quite innocently.

carrots can help keep your eyesight in good condition because they contain high levels of *vitamin A* which is good for eyesight.
The amount of poppy seeds required to show the trace levels is more than what you'd normally eat.

I'm almost certain that the carrot myth originated from British pilots using radar in WW2 to be so successful on night missions. The enemy were informed or believed that it was because they ate lots of carrots?

The first collision is expected to occur around the 21st of October.

I did have a rather superior snigger at all the media-frenzy surrounding them just powering the blody thing up.

There is a urban legend that a big silver jug like thing with big ears lurks in the trophy cabinet at anfield................something about 5 times whatever that means.

I merely agreed with the origin of the myth which both you and Kernel posted. If you want "I said it first" rights maybe you should take it up with Kernel.
