ok, I have a sky box downstairs and I asked about getting a +box to replace it, and to move the original box upstairs, I don't have it connected to a phone line so here's what I was told

€149 for the box... no discounts for existing customers at all.
€87.50 installation fee because I don't have it connected to a phone line and the engineer will need to install "extra software"
No multiroom because I don't have it connected to a phone line so I can't move the old box upstairs.

so it will cost me €236.50 to upgrade to plus... load of rubbish IMO!

So here's the question, If I get a plus box off ebay (they're really cheap now) - If I plug it in where the existing box is, will it work?

for a sky +box you will need another cable to run into it for the recording there for you might need a quad lnb. 3 cables in all: 2 for sky plus and one for the original box

not much info but its all i can think of atm

Without a subscription card the SKY+ feature won't work.

You could also ring 0818 719 819, dial option 5 and threaten to cancel citing the following reasons:

    1. Sterling has not been as weak against the Euro for 5 years, yet despite this, your Sky sub has been increased from September.
    2. Setanta are getting more and more football, Sky are showing less and still put up your sub.
    3. Everytime you pick up a newspaper/magazine/Golden Pages an insert falls out promising Free Sky plus but on closer inspection of the small print it transpires it's for new users only and you are not a happy camper.

I did this last week (be ballsy!) on my parents behalf and was offered a Sky+ box for the €49 installation cost, do it in the morning time when people can understand what you are implying and not through to a foreign call centre where you are lucky if they get past entering your surname. If you drop the installer a few extra quid he may run an extra cable for your old box in its new location. Is there any way you can temporarily connect it to a phone line. It is only required at set up stage.

Best option is to cancel and sign up again. I done this last week and saved €250. Had sky and wanted sky+ and multiroom, also wanted new sky box to replace old. Rang sky and told them all this and they quoted €425 as I was an existing customer 149+50 for sky+ then 225 for a new sky box.

Rang up a crowd from golden pages and they informed me best option was to cancel and setup new subscription, done this and total cost was €174 and only waited one week for new cards to arrive and installation.
Happy as larry and now €250 better off.

Does anyone know, do you have to be with sky a year before you can cancel your subscription?

    thanks.

From my experience with Sky they are just as likely to say "Right O" and cancell your subscription as I have never felt that they give a flying fu*k weather your a customer or not. They seem to be an equal treat everyone like sh1t company.

Get a kick out of this ppl: Sky actually cut off my sisters sub because they were not taking money for the bill?? the money was in the bank ready and waiting for them to take it out but never did, get this i rang them up to settle the bill with a credit card...and they hung up!!

no wonder there losing customers....ignorant pr**ks

Your present box should only have a double LNB on the dish ie one cable transmitting one feed. Sky Plus Box requires Quad LNB to 2 cables transmitting 2 feeds to watch one Channel (while if you want record another).Sellers on EBay sell the above conversion kit(Quad LNB plus cable and fittings) aboutE20.You have to ring Sky to initialise box when fitted

Single box would more likely have a single LNB, as opposed to a double LNB (in fact, I've never seen a dual LNB for a Sky Minidish). Quad LNB of course allows 4 cables to be connected, with Sky+ requiring 2.
