We have the essential albums thread, so I thought i'd open discussions on the flip side of the coin. What albums have disappointed you this year.

I'm gonna start things off with a few controversial ones that I know people will not agree with.

    Nas - Untitled
For the first time in a while I was excited to hear a Nas album, in my opinion on his last few ventures he has turned into a 'singles' artist, make an album with a few singles and pad the rest out with tracks that are okish. Maybe the odd featured artist and 'hot' producer to tide things over and get his track listing up. I am not denying that he has talent, its just in recent years he hasnt been using his talent properly. He is still nice with his flow and his lyrics, probably being most on point on Untitled. But Untitled is more a lecture than an album to me. I dont mind the odd politically charged song but nearly a whole album of it, no thanks. And the production doesnt cut the mustard either, the drums are weak and there are too many winey singers on the hooks.....and his talking before one or 2 of the songs is very unecessary.

    Wu-Tang Clan - 8 Diagrams
This is another album that i was excited about because of the reviews i've heard and how highly people where speaking of it. Personally I dont see what the hype was about. There are 4 or 5 good songs on the album and the rest are average and borderring on poor. I think i've said it on this forum before, and i'll say it again, each member of the Wu have gone too hollywood, each sees themselves as a solo artist over a group member now and that is where their focus lies. I doubt that there where times recording this that there where more than 2 of the clan in the same room, it sounds like verses where written and recorded seperately and the songs where pieced together.
Remember the days of the Wu-Mansion, where they all used to get in there, record and hang out together, I doubt that unity is amongst them anymore and has filtered into thier music as a collective.

8 Diagrams came out last year, wouldn't call it particurly disapointing., had some cracking tracks, just rather bloated.

The Nas, Ice Cube and RZA albums come to mind.

Started to listen to the Ice Cude album, got about 5 songs in and had to turn it off.

EDIT: Listened to the rest of the album, then gave it another spin. Very disappointing. Simplistic rhymes, same rhyme pattern the whole way throught the album. I think he even mentions his name in evry song once or twice.
Production is average, i think the beats are trying to hard to be similar to what is in the mainstream at the moment.

Nothing more annoying and disappointing than a rapper name checking himself more times in a song than anything else...stand up game!

Games album was a good all rounded album though, people may not like the name dropping style but production was great on there and i liked the lyrics, the idea of the Biggie Pac and Eazy tribute came off very well!
