    I hadn't noticed it. It could be on the test aircraft for cockpit surveilance. It looks a bit elaborate to be anything else. It

    Probably the same reason all modern jet fighters, the space shuttle, and more and more business jets and GA aircraft have them.

    They take up less room and for fly-by-wire aircraft they require little physical force to manipulate the aircraft in flight.

    It dosen't take long to get used to using your other hand to control the aircraft.
