Best time to have Whey Protein

    Basically, when is it most advantageous to consume Whey Protein, before, during, or after your workout.
    Also, should I have it just before/during/after weights sessions, or is it beneficial to have before/during/after cardio sessions and rugby training?

    Hi JF, after training would be the best. Deifinitely after weights and would help recovery after rugby and cardio also. Just make sure you have some simple carbs with it to aid recvery further. 2 parts carbs to one protein is good.

    Before and after is good. Maintaining a good amino acid profile throughout the day is essential to over all recovery and gains.

    Most importantly, what do you want it to for you? It has many attributes.

    After training is best. Have a banana at the same time.

    Apart from that a scoop in the morning first thing and a scoop in the evening before bed should be ok if your diet is right.

    People usually saw best straight after a workout, so I figure a few mins before the end and it is just starting to be effective. I drink before during and after, I do like eating/drinking whey though. It is just food after all.

    I was taking before and after for a month or so but have started taking it only after a workout for the last 2 weeks or so.

    I've been told taking it first thing in the morning is good as your body is crying out for nutrients and the protein is taken in by your body like a hoover but i've never been able to stomach it :/

    exactly! So make sure it's Nutrients as opposed to nutrient!

    feed the body all the macronutrients needed in the morning, protein, carbs and fat!

    Taking casein protein before bed will stop your body going into a catabolic state. Otherwise use whey protein isolate.
