Any mock the week watchers here? I like the programme and usually get a few chuckles.

But my god the bald stocky guy is annoying (andy?).

    His. way.of.talking.with.fullstops.in.his.sentences.is.getting.progessivly.more.annoying.

Ruining an otherwise enjoyable half hour. I realise this was more of a rant about him than a discussion bout the show but it was this or fling somthing at the tv.:)

This is a fantastic show, Frankie Boyle is friggin hilarious. The earlier seasons were ok, but the last few have been the best. I do be in tears watching it.

One comment which i will always remember was Frankie saying something along the lines of ''the queen is so old her pussy must be haunted'', so much funnier with a scottish accent:)

edit, frankie and hugh dennis doing 'between the lines' is also a highlight.

This thread is about 5 years too late! :p

I have started to get a bit bored frankly, they need to freshen up the regulars, get a better class of guest (NO WIMMINS except Sue Perkins) and make damned sure Michael McIntyre is nowhere near the building.

'Mock The Week' is very hit and miss (last week's being dreadful).. same with '8 Out Of 10 Cats'. 'QI' is the only one that remains consistently excellent!

Last weeks episode wasn't the best but overall it's one of the best seasons. I quite like that they've gotten fairly settled with their regulars, including Andy. Though some of the guests are a bit dodgy (especially Lauren Laverne last week). They really need to get John Oliver back on every now and then but I suppose he's too busy with The Daily Show.

I haven't kept up with the last few, but it's probably my favourite panel show. Franky Boyle is consistently hilarious; whenever he steps up to the mic, you know you're gonna be laughing your ass off in a few seconds. Disagree with the OP though, Andy is my favourite after Franky.

That Andy guy and the youngest are a bit annoying. The clean cut well spoken guy is horrible, I forget his name but he is very unfunny. At one stage I decided to really give him a chance and imagined a comedian I liked saying the things he said and the lines he came out with didn't fly any better.
It's a great show though and I'd class it way over 8 out of ten cats, which I loathe. QI is wonderful. Where were they in the alphabet last? I haven't seen it in ages...

I thought last weeks show was great apart from Lauren Luverne. Michael McIntyre seems to get slated by alot of people, I find him to be very funny. This is the best show out there at the moment, but I do agree that if some guests were actually comedians it would be better. I also find 8 out 10 Cats boring and have never heard of QI

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

QI is good ratinakeg you should give it watch.

Mock the Week is class and I strongly disagree with the op Andy Parsons is the best IMO, I like him more than Frankie Boyle which is saying something as he is immense.

    Andy Parsons, the.stop.start..is.his.........thing
    alas.he...doesnt.do..it.as......well............as...................................me

hs is actually quite clever, his delivery is/can be grating
tried his radio show on bbc7, i lasted about 2 mins, poor!

I hate that Michael MacIntyre chap. He has the odd moment but he thinks he's much funnier than he is, i.e. not very funny. He tries to be zany and act silly but it just seems too much an act. As for other guests, David Mitchell is always a class act and could become the new Stephen Fry. Ed Byrne seems to get alot of work off them probably due to his friendship with Dara O'Brien. Ed used to be quite funny but seems to have a confidence problem and often tries too hard.

Frankie Boyle is hugely entertaining. Tries to be as shocking as possible which I like. Russell the blond chap is quite funny. The other two though, especially Hugh are really the only sticky regulars. The best you get out of Andy Parsons is the odd cringe-worthy pun but I'll let him off because he has a kind of charming vulnerabilty, whereby the viewer wills him to be funny. sometimes he is, usually he ain't.

Hugh -Dennis is it? He has got to go. He often goes entire episodes saying very little. When he does say something he often tries to make it a running joke throughout the episode which is just lazy IMO. You can clearly see that Frankie Boyle hates him as I do and never laughs or even smiles at any of his jokes. And that "Are you paying too much for your car insurance?" bit he has done in nearly every episode since the start was never funny. Pack it in Hugh, you're funnier when you keep your mouth shut.

    And that's "Mock the Week"!
    :D

Where and when can I find QI. Andy Parsons is good but Frankie Boyle is pure class.

Very weak panel based quiz show, a waste of Dara O'Briain.

David Mitchell was great on it though.

You can find it on BBC 2 but there is no season currently running. But as with most BBC programs you can find all the episodes on youtube.

Indeed IQ empties its bladder over the rest from a considerable height.

Fcvk that should say QI :o

series f should be starting soon though, cant wait!

i like mock the week but you're right about it being hit and miss. David mitchell is always great, totally carries the ep whenever he's on, also the only reason i watch 'would i lie to you'. It was revealed the other week that when he was little he used to dress up as an 18th century nobleman. as for john oliver, anyone listen to the bugle?

Here is Series 2, Episode 3

Their is one episode but you should be able to find more from them links.

love the guy from my hero, why has it taken him so long to appear on these type of shows shows regularily, i love lauren lvyrne she's incredibly witty but a bit wasted on this show, when they do the stand up thing she stood up there with the other guys but never went to mike... :/

what about would i lie to you, thats a far more hit and miss, the lies and truths and desperatly boring and banal, really unfunny, i don't know who though it would be good show it only saved by david mitchell going off on one every now and again

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,148 ✭✭✭✭KnifeWRENCH

I love Mock The Week but it can be a bit hit and miss, depending on the guests they have.

The regulars are all great, though Frankie Boyle has to be the best. Hugh Dennis is more of an actor/impressionist than a comedian but he is brilliant at certain rounds (his impersonations of Prince Charles and Prince Philip were hilarious!)

As for the guests, David Mitchell and Ed Byrne are always fantastic on it. Jo Caulfield is the best female comedian they have on it, although Gina Yashere and Lauren Laverne have occassional funny moments.
Michael McIntyre and Mark Watson are OK - some good jokes but they can be a bit grating at times.
Lucy Porter and Fred MacCauley should not be allowed on it again. They sucked.

Also, QI is indeed brilliant! It would be great if they could get some of the guests on QI to appear on Mock The Week, like Rich Hall, Sean Lock and Clive Anderson (who was on it before I think)
Really looking forward to the "F" series, although Bill Bailey and Jeremy Clarkson aren't in it :(

As someone has already said, Mock the week can be hit and miss, but it's worth watching all the same. QI is starting to suffer from the same problems, Alan Davies just isn't that funny, what's the deal with him, is he Fry's toyboy or something?

    QI has spawned a whole little cult of itself;

Nah, I like Davies on it. Rich Hall can be irritatingly unfunny at times.

see the now show from bbc radio 4, and the mary whitehouse experience from the late 80s/early 90s(where it should stay).

also can't imagine Rich Hall or Clive Anderson going near Mock the Week.

I like Mock The Week. I think Dara is quite good as the host. I like Andy Parsons sentance stoppage thing, I also think the young blondey guy is funny and the tall English fella when he does his Jimmy Saville Showaddywaddy :D
The Scottish guy is funny in parts, but always has a degrading joke about Scotland which is tiresome. I dislike Rory Bremner, one trick pony.

Dara O'Briain is totally wasted on Mock The Week. One of the best improvisational comedians around stuck reading the autocue, madness! David Mitchell is an absolute genius, just appeals to my sense of humour. He's funny on any panel show I've seen him on, another in the long line of Oxbridge comedians on the BBC. Frankie Boyle is hit and miss, he comes out with outrageous stuff all the time, sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,826 ✭✭✭Mr. Guappa

Mock The Week is really the Frankie Boyle show.. he is consistently funny, the rest are very hit and miss when they contribute.. totally agree with previous poster that Dara O'Briain is wasted as the presenter

Funny everybody here is rating Frankie Boyle so highly, I've seen most of the panelists doing stand-up and he didn't really meet expectations (still very funny though and recently he's been the funniest thing on mock the week). Russell Howard on the other hand surprised me - excellent stand-up comic and very witty.

As for QI, always brilliant, F series should be showing soon, I went to one of the recordings but i won't reveal anything here;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,752 ✭✭✭pablomakaveli

im not a big fan of mock the week. it has its moments but sometimes it degenerates into the comedians just trying to get their jokes or one liners in ahead of each other.

QI is absolutely brilliant. Stephen Fry is always funny. Alan Davies is brilliant as well. they have better guests and you can actually learn some interesting things from the show.

Yep. He's the best thing on that show by miles.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 863 ✭✭✭Mikel

Frankie is class, Mitchell carries any panel show he's on.

The others are wasters, that Howard chap is cringeworthy. He's either telling jokes about his nan, or says something that an oap would consider mildly shocking and then turns and mugs at the camera as if he's just suggested exhuming princess diana and skull fcuking the corpse. Knob.

Dennis is a one trick pony, plays the middle class daily mail reader.
    Parsons. Is. An. Unfunny. Twat.
And those female comedians they get, Jebus. There must be a quota or something.

I like QI sometimes, depends who's on, but Davies gives me the rage.
Like an attention starved puppy with ADHD, consistently stinks the place out.

Mock the week is the best thing on at the moment. Frankie Boyle has me in stitches every week, I actually like Andy and his staccato delivery.

Anderson was on Mock The Week before.

you can see dara o'brien trying to get in on the fun when he does his little act outs and noises, you say he wasted as host, but hte panel is lost without him as host.

speaking of, did anyone notice new harry and paul show on last week

Yeah, it really was brilliant, especially that 40-45 act. I love this kinda humour. The Beckham scene.... LEG INJURY!!:D:D
    I've got it series linked.

Frankie Boyle is the full legend.
Andy Parsons' voice cracks me up, even when his jokes aren't that funny (most of them are)
Not a huge fan of Hugh Dennis but I love his car insurance gags
Russell Howard is OK, funny at times but doesn't have the same natural talent as Frankie

All in all, Mock the Week is, in my view, the best quizcom show. Can't stand Stephen Fry on QI, he's too stuck up for my liking

I love Mock the Week! That Russel guy is actually really funny. Have the dvd of one of their series and all of his best bits were cut out from what was aired (too nasty for tv!). Very funny though. Frankie Boyle is also a gem, as is Dara O'Brien. I like him in that role, he gets to ad-lib and would be wasted as just a panelist (as he has been on other shows).

HIGNFY is by far the best panel show of them ALLLLLL!!!! :D

Agreed on the women guests, much like they ruin The Panel by their contributions, so too Mock The Week. That Gina Yashire being the worst offender, not only does she look retarded but her material is woeful.

Is this on? The way BBC NI **** the schedules about I have trouble keeping up.

QI rocks and is back for a Children In Need special, new series next Jan I think, oh and Screen Wipe is back next week, going off topic completely.
