The judges have been selected and have agreed to undertake the difficult task of choosing a winner from all the excellent photographs submitted. Judging will take place in the week beginning 22nd September and the results will be announced as soon as they have completed their deliberations.

Who else put in an entry?

I got a call this evening.

Apparently I have won a Mac Laptop as first prize in the competition. I did not think I had a chance but am delighted.

    :D

The winning shot was called "The Corner Shop"

Congrats.. Thats a nice prize.. I liked the photo too.. Would be a very interesting series to document the extinction of such shops around Dublin

    Defo congrats on winning...

Laughed to myself when I saw the website for the competition though... that laptop will take you a good while to boot up or run any software on...
South Dublin Libraries announces our annual heritage photographic competition - Oidhreacht. An Apple MacBook 2.1 Hz laptop and iPod Classic 80GB are some of the prizes to be won!

Last minute & I had decided to put the other two images in & thought may as well put in a third one. So that image was sent in on an impulse.

I did take a series of shots in that shop to record the small local shop which will soon be a thing of the past. The shopkeeper (Sean) says that nobody has ever taken any before. I gave him a few prints to say thanks & he was delighted, as were his family. I do plan to convert that image to mono as I feel it would suit the documentary style better.

    Fair play with the win!!

Why didn't they use an Irish site like Pix.ie?

    Well done on the win.

Entered it myself but obviously got nowhere :(

Must admit to being surprised at your win.

Don't get me wrong I'm not criticising your photo, just didn't think that is what the judges would be looking for in a competition about South Dublin Heritage but maybe that's why I'm not a judge!

Once again congrats on your win, enjoy your apple!

Will you keep it or sell it for photo gear?

You are not as surprised as me! As I said I put that one in as I had picked two images & they allowed three. I almost sent in another one. I took that shot to document the small local shop, which may not be there for much longer. If I were C&C'ing it myself I would have said that there is a lot of clutter & the eye is drawn all over the image. The feedback I got was that is what they liked about it, as well as it did fit in with the heritage theme.

I am going to keep the Mac. I have never really used one before but hear Mac users say how superior they are to PC's etc. I have noticed that many people in graphics do go for Mac's too. My PC is too full with all the stuff I have on it, so I plan to make the Mac dedicated to photography.

Yea - well done to you cabansail - nice idea too for a shot.

I think this was the competition I posted previously. I thought the T&C's were all quite reasonable compared to other competitions which were running around the time - no selling the granny, your soul to the devil or sacrificing your first born child :)

I have no problem with allowing them use of the image. That is quite reasonable. I would not have entered if I lost the copyright though.
