I know it's not going to be exactly groundbreaking news but, sweet Jebus is it bad. Take EVERY Chinese movie cliche:
flashback to scene from 20 mins ago, pretty deaf/dumb/blind/whatever love interest. Assassin with his own heart-of-gold morals, extensive voiceover, mentor/student montage, two handed gunplay etc
I mean have they not even SEEN Hot Fuzz? There's even a Mr Miyagi scene. Was waiting for Wax On/Wax Off

Plus, as we all know: Nic Cage+Mullet=Bad movie

I wish I could say it was so bad it was good but it just wasn't. I know it's a loose remake of their own film (Which, to be fair, I haven't seen yet) but it just screamed that it should have been in Chinese with Chow Yun-Fat or Tony Leung or Andy Lau in the main role. Well, that's my 2 cents worth (And that's about all my thoughts are worth :) ) What did ye think?

The original is terrific. Think I'll be avoiding this.

    +1
    Great movie.

As for the remake, defo wont be viewing. The fact
the original protagonist is the deaf mute and now his bird is makes no sense whatsoever to me

Sigh, just another worthless piece of trash that will be lapped up by idiots and will finance another slew of remakes.

Considering its a remake of their own movie, I wonder why they were so open to changing such a fundemental part of the story, just so we'd get to hear the beautiful lilting tones of Nic Cages voice............makes absolutely no sense. Surely it would have been a much more challenging role for Cage to play the character as intended.

I enjoyed the original and I refuse to see the remake, no matter how many impressive explosions, speedy boat chases or wonderous hair extensions the trailer portrayed

Don't get me wrong, the Infernal Affairs trilogy is fantastic
Especially that bit in 3 where the characters out their secret to the shrink.
and I quite liked the Departed. But you can imagine the suits (to quote Billy Walsh) thinking "Hmmm, these contemporary urban asian thrillers seem to have a large cult following and that departed did well....... Let's buy them all us". I'm only waiting for The Killer with Tom Cruise or Hard Boiled with Reece Witherspoon ........:D

See i was kind of looking forward to this. granted, I haven't seen the orginal and i'm a bit of a sucker for braindead brightlight/loud films if the mood takes me. See I knid of liked Next with NC which was Panned world wide so I'll be interested to see what I think of this one.

Dont even joke about things like that.
It really is only a matter of time though.

Well, I didn't book the tickets so I'm not taking the blame :) But I think the poster with the poorly erased gun should have been a warning. Plus, as you say, Nic Cage...... WITH Mullet (And it deserves the capital M)

It's just gone to No.1 in the US. Probably here too. What have we DONE!!!!!!!!!!!

Has Nicholas Cage lost his fúcking mind?

Seriously, he's like the white Eddie Murphy.

Saw the remake a few weeks ago and I kinda enjoyed it .
Its slow and a bit predictable but slightly offbeat.
Cage has a bad wig and he isnt ideally suited to the role.
Its got a good score though, some fine cinematography and overall its a decent enough show.
I've seen alot of films far far worse than it this year.

This has to be one of the most blatant sell out remakes ever - To take your own decent film and remake it into this failed-Hollywood-mutant-abortion takes a special kind of car-crash like ****ed-up ability or a complete and utter lack of any sort of soul whatsoever.

I hope the Pang brothers got paid a truckload of money for this as it is one of the worst cases of selling out of any sort of artistic integrity I have ever seen.

I went to see this using my Cineworld card so I didnt directly pay for it but even still I contemplated asking for a refund.

What made it even worse was I hadn't really been thinking about what film to see, had some time to kill, saw the title Bangkok Dangerous and kinda half-thought "hmm that title reminds me of something decent - must have read a good review or something - I know Nick Cage is in it but I'll give it a chance" Went in and sat down and as I watched it the memory of the far superior original came back, and how this failed to compare became blatantly obvious.
In the end I watched it to the end just to see how shockingly bad it was.

    AWFUL. AWFUL. AWFUL.

I think my favourite aspect was how most shots seem to have been set up to try and make Cage's hair looked as lifelike as possible and this only managed to focus more attention on how artifical it was. I had visions of some sort of combintation hair-stylist/cinematographer being the one setting up the camera in consultation with Cage on set.:(

Tell me something is the ending of
him shooting himself and the leader at the same time
in the orginal? is it explained better? cause when it happened I thought like what the hell.

I really did want to like it, Its not often i'm proved very very wrong from going to see a film that I like the look of. but ya it was awful.
