Call from different number = stalking?

couple of months ago I saw a thread in here where someone thought they were being ignored. so then I told them to call the person from another phone. this is what people used to do long ago when caller displays were just coming in. but someone advised against it - said that calling from another phone will get you a restraining order and all sorts of other trouble.

people used to call me from different phones to see if I was ignoring them. I thought nothing of it. but these days it takes 0 effort to be a stalker. nowadays people are used to being able to ignore someone, unfriend them on facebook and disappear quietly without explicitly letting the person know they don't like them. none of these people still have the guts to tell someone to piss off, so if subtle hints and a bit of ignoring doesn't work straight away they accuse you of stalking.

why are people becoming so sensitive, and so very paranoid about stalking?

This is more a social comment or a humanities thread than a PI. PI is not really a place for general discussion without it being pertinent to someone's situation, so until you show how this is a personal issue for specifically for you I'm closing it

    Moved from PI to Humanities.

I don't know, but I find it strange when people say "I never answer a private number" or the like. 10 years ago every number was private.

To be honest, it sounds very weird about the calling from a different number. The phonecalls I make (& receive) are to:

    1) my mates
    2) people I work with
    3) family
    4) occasionally something random like a computer technical callback or some other random call.

No matter what the number is I will always answer; what's the worst that could happen?

maybe those people had a lot of messers calling them from private numbers. i usually answer them unless i know it's a messer. if i call from a different number maybe people who ignore me feel they were tricked into answering and call me a stalker
