Mac Mini Core Solo

Anyone ever used a Mac Mini Core Solo? I'm toying with the idea (yet again) of picking one up second hand as a media centre. Lowendmac.com says they wouldn't recommend one due to sluggish performance, but I wouldn't be running it as a full computer, just a media centre (EyeTV, Front Row, Remote Buddy). Anyone got any input?

Yeah, should be perfect as a media centre. I say go for it.

I have a Core Duo 1.66Ghz Mini - the Core Duo was meant to be a lot less powerful than the Core 2 Duo so I would assume it compares more to the Core Solo you are considering. I now use it mostly as a media PC and it handles everything I've thrown at it - up to and including 720p .mkv files. The only thing it has issues with is 1080p .mkv files which is not surprising really. Based on that, I would say the Core Solo will be fine for everything you described though it might struggle with the 720p files but I don't think so. Get yourself a copy of Plex and set that up - it has buffering options for all types of videos which should help offset any CPU slowdowns you may have:

Plex is amazing for a media Mac!
