Driving home today, for some reason I started thinking about Dunlop 65s. Anybody remember them (you'll need to be over 30 at least)? mostly I remember my old lad playing with them and any of the ones that had cuts in them I used love opening them up and taking out all the rubber elastic inside - hours of fun! And then there was the squishy bit with inky crap inside - not much fun if you burst that.

Anyway, these days I'm using Maxfli Revolution Tours - are they as good as Pro V1s. Never really tried the Pro V1s due to the price.....but got some Revolutions in the US pretty cheap last year.

Ah Dunlop 65's,I remember them well.
I too used to dismantle them ,I'd sometimes use them as a yo yo.
The cat used to like to play with them.
They were a very small and soft ball,I still have a good few of them around the place.

Remeber a few of the alright but their hayday was before my time.
The 65i (an 'improved' update i guess) though was a very common ball in the late 80's.
The original 65 was named after someone(Henry Cotton?, Christy O'Connor Snr ?) shooting a 65 in StGeorges (?), in the British open (?). Or some such story along those lines.

I have many Dunlop 65s in my collection. The older ones have small writing and 8 numbers at each "corner" of the ball. Many other balls of that era were wound construction with cheaper balls being 1 piece. AFAIK the first 2 piece ball was the Top Flite introduced in the early seventies. The Dunlop 65i which introduced in the mid eighties was also a two piece ball.

I also used to dismantle wound balls and a favourite trick was to cut away part of the cover and some of the winding and then set the ball on fire :) The core would expand and then produce a mini explosion :)

I found one out on the course last week in excellent condition if anyone wants it.
Its just a standard Dunlop 65, looks pretty small tho.

Which would be correct - 1.62" rather than the current (American) 1.68" that we all use these days. Dont think anyone is making 1.62 anymore.
