Hi I am thinking of setting up my own online business.

Do I need to register this as a business. It is just an online site with shopping cart etc...?

Also what taxes if any am I subject to? Does age matter too, I am only a student?

    Thanks

Presuming you will be trading under a name other than your own name, you need to register the business name (Form RBN1 with the Companies Registration Office), online at www.cro.ie.

LOL the fact that your a student doesn't make you exempt from paying tax on income, but I do think it makes you infallable!

Can you explain the difference between trading under your own name & trading under a trade name, and its implications on Company registration?

As in, if i set up a .com address like rareeggcups.com, will i have to register this with cro.ie if i intend to sell products?

No not at all if you are traing under a certain amount. However you are unable to purchase a .ie domain without either a corresponding business or company name that is relevant to the domain name. .com is far more leinient and anyone can register a domain. Only when you start making a profit do you need to start registering a business name or company name with the CRO or have revenue over 75k, even then you do not have to register the exact domain name, you can register under a totally differnt name and sell through the site, it will give you more legitimasy to the end user if you are a registered business though
