Reading in this evenings Herald, it has reported a large loophole in the underage drinking law where kids can use their parents credit cards to order booze over the phone, the booze is then delivered to the house without question. :D How long will it last in this country before we will have to flash photo ID before we can purchase alcohol?

My brother used to always do that, order off restaurant express and they'd deliver it to him. Occasionally they checked, but generally it was easy for him. I'd say they'll start crackin down on it soon

If it can be argued that the parent made the transaction (given it was there credit card) then there is nothing wrong that I can see.

In a private residence, there is no age restriction on the consuption of alcohol /edit and therefore, no loophole to close.

Wasn't the delivery of alcohol made illegal in that last off license law update?

Not soon enough. It should require ID. It should require a reliable, widely-recognized ID...a national ID perhaps? By Jove! What an idea. Good man Run_to_'da'_hills. I support your supporting of a national ID. I'll always be behind you all the way.

Yea have each bottle or can tagged with an RFID tag. (Tesco already tag wines & spirits over e10 value with RFID security) When you purchase your booze you swipe your National ID card along with the tagged booze into the system and they know exactly where the booze was bough and who bought it. If you drive under the Westlink gantry after a large purchase the aurthorities will assume you are going to an unauthorised party to sell the stuff and will follow you

Isn't there something in the Law that allows kids form the age of 8 to drink once there with there parents buy it from them....I don't think parents can be procuted for buying there children booze....it's a pretty old law but it's there somewhere...

They shoud scrap the age limit and encourage personal responsibility, it might take 14 years before we see the benafit but it would end underage binge drinking....

i'm thirsty after all that....:D Time to hit the pint shop!!

There's no age limit. Children can be given alcohol by their parents at any age. Social services obviously might have something to say if children are put in danger however.

I don't really see how they dont get caught. Surely the parents will see on the bill that drink was bought. It used to be in Ennis that you could pay when it was delivered. Now you need a credit card. Which is ghey.

There are plenty of rich kid parents that don't even bother to look at their statements.

I remember phoning up a taxi as a 15 year old and getting them to pick up two 6 packes and 20 smokes. All the lad on the other end said was "You'll sort him out for the run and the cans yeah?" When the guy got to the door, gave him £20 and he went off; no questions asked. Kids these days must not be as enterprising. :P

Yeh we used to do a similar thing back in the day. Ring the local chinese and in our deepest Ronnie Drew voice ask for a "bag of chips and a curry sauce, Oh and would ya mind stopping into the off license for 20cans of stonehouse, 20 bottles of purple woodies and 100 john player blue" - Sorted.

These sheep would not even see the reality you have stated.

Thw whole booze argument is a joke anyway. You can buy 6 cans of Druids for €8, however you cannot feed the familt for less than €20.

Just like the soviet union, queue all day for a bit of bread, get a bottle of vodka in 2 minutes.

We are moving into a total surveillance society, cashless, where every move you make will be tracked. But the rabble still think they are free.

    Ooh, Conspiracy Theories are fun!

How people think that keeping children sober is a bad thing I'll never understand.
