Pat Keogh not to renue contract with Nissan

Reading the post today and i see that Pat Keogh isn't renewing his contract with Nissan. Instead concentrating on Bmw and Mini, i knew there was a reason why he didn't update that Nissan showroom.
I wonder who'll take Nissan for Limerick.
I was thinking through the Nissan range and i don't think i would be the most keen to take it on. Fair enought they are a well known, reliable Jap car, but their range seems that bit boring.

Their range is terrible if you remove the qasqhai.I dont think the tiida did much for their street cred either:D:D.Afaik, the micra is being replaced my some sort of crossover like a smaller qashqai in the near future. That may doo well but there are plenty of competitors on the way.Even the qashqai, IMO, has a fairly limited market.(i.e I dont think a single man would buy one, that sort of way).I can see why a dealer would drop them. They are'nt exactly cool are they??Except for the GTR, that is, of course. The only Nissan i could see myself owning:D

They are also owned by Renault which for me, discredits some of their reliability

are u sure Pat Keogh will be leaving, have you heard of anyone else not staying with nissan.

Passed by the place today and all the Nissan signs have been removed from the forecourt. He still has plenty of unsold brand new Nissans though including Primeras sitting there. He still has the BMW/MINI franchise further down the road in a fairly new forecourt. I heard the he is keeping the existing filling station and redeveloping it.

I'd imagine that someone else will take over the Nissan franchise soon enough though I don't envy them.

Pat Tiernan Motors are taking over the Nissan franchise I think. The news of Keogh's losing the brand is weeks old.

Pat Tiernan Motors has always been a Nissan dealer for the county so as it stands Nissan are down a franchised dealership in the city.

Not exactly Frank Bresnan was out there beforehand. Tiernan has been there a few years however.

Pat Tiernan used to work for/with Frank Bresnan to my knowledge. Frank then passed away and Pat Tiernan took over or bought the garage and Nissan franchise afaik.

The weak line up seems to be tailored to the Irish market. Take a look up in Belfast, the Nissan line up is much more 4x4 and youth orientated. Patrol, Murano, Qashqai, 350Z are all decent cars. Think that in the States, Nissan has introduced cars aimed at early 20 somethings.

Kildare has now no Nissan Dealer or Chevrolet Dealer, I wonder who will be a Nissan Dealer in Kildare, i Presume probably Windsor and they will drag chevie along with them. Kildare is a good spot, alot of Dubs there,Naas Newbridge.......

Pat Tiernan worked for Elm motors before going to Shanagolden. Bresnan was there too many years ago.

The site at Pat Keogh's will be redeveloped to leverage the Topaz brand for fuel. So a nice big petrol station so.

To continue selling expensive fuel as it does now.

He has a contract with all the reps etc. who buy fuel. Being the reason why he's always a bit over priced.

There have been radio ads for weeks saying something like:

"Pat Tiernan, main dealer for Nissan in Co. Limerick and coming soon to Limerick City"

As someone else said earlier, Nissan is now owned by Renault, it's no wonder they want out. They've suceeded in making a reliable car unreliable.

its true about the topaz talking the site ......pat keogh sent a letter to registered nissan customers..... supposed to be building a big shop/conveinience store too....badly needed out that side

If the price of his fuel like his cars is anything to go by then he won't sell much in a shop either as most people who pay for their own fuel don't stop there.

Maybe he might cop on now though.

im not sure whether he is retaining ownership of the site itself or not.....

Its gas, Irish people love to make up stories if they don't know the truth!!
Pat actually used to run Ennis Road Motors, and Frank passed away, then Pat bought the business, he never worked for him.

I was trying to think back, was Pat Keogh joined with Seamus Quinn up a bit from Barrington's Hospital

Am I completetly off the rails here?? if not what main dealership did they hold ?

been bugging me since the start of this thread & can't remember

Pat Tiernan Motors, currently located in Shanagolden, Co. Limerick are closing their premises there and re-locating to the former Pat Keogh Nissan premises in Limerick.

Nissans - especially the Almera & Micra seem to be bought by the worst and slowest drivers in history. I don't normally get stressed when driving but if I pull up behind one of those cars there is a 70% chance that I will.

    Hi,
All I have to say is I did an interview with this man many years ago for a trainee stores person. I came away feeling about an inch tall. Thanks Pat, you really know how to give a young fella confidence. It was an experience though.
    Thats all.

All the Nissan signs are down, but there were still a good few Tiidas there when I passed the other day.

Somebody should probably take up another Nissan License within the City. I dont know anybody who is going to drive to Shanagolden for a Nissan/Service.

With all the new dealerships being built on the Tipp road surely one of them might be spearheaded for a Nissan Dealership.

Presumebly one of those is for Honda, the others ??? who knows? Is Tom Hogan going to put a "Real" Lexus dealership out there instead of the place they had on the dock road.

They were rumoured to be going into Blackberry retail park at the end of the dock road but rumours are also that Shay, the developer, has going bust. His private hospital looks on the long finger for now anyway.

Pat Keogh has a bad name for BMW. I dont think he had a bad name for Nissan.

Anyone ever see the BMW Estate driving around with a notice in the back window about BMW service? He was slandering their service department. A sales man told me(from Pat Keogh) that apparently they paid him off to remove the sign from his window.

Passed this morning and the sign replacing the Nissan sign says New & Used Cars.

New sales presuming he has a lot of unregistered Nissan left to sell.

Still, Patkeogh.com shows him still advertising Nissan Sales.

    Nissan.ie still have him listed.

I reckon Elm Motors will take one of the dealerships up for grabs. They lost Mitsubishi (or gave it up) and they have just finished with Volvo too I believe. I don't think they are closing, but since Nissan and Honda are up for grabs in the city, they could take one of them. All speculation of course.

Elm motors gave up Mitsubishi. Dont they have a specific showroom across from the Volvo one. Little showroom I grant you but....

John Moloney has Honda and is on the Tipp road. One of those new deaerships by Delta retail park is his or both. Dont need another Honda dealer, thats for sure.

Im suprised Elm motors would give up Volvo. I didnt think they were doing too bad with Volvo in Limerick.

Or maybe Renault have learned the Japanese manufacturing methods, and are instilling them in their own operations. 3 year warranty on a Laguna before Renault bought Nissan? Unthinkeable. Can't wait to see a new Primera or its replacement. French style with Japanese reliability.

I heard quite a while ago from a reliable source within the motor industry that Moloney actually lost Honda, but maybe a new deal has been brokered for them.

Whether Elm Motors gave up or lost Volvo, I don't actually know. Details about this transition are sketchy at the moment.

Passed Elm today and there seems to be a massive lack of cars in his forecourt. Last week he was jammed with them. Either he has had a good week or shipped them off to other dealers at a loss.

Moloney Honda sold that property at Punches Cross and made a small fortune(so the rumours go) and had an Ad around 3 weeks ago looking for new Salesmen for his new dealership.

If I remember correctly I do not think the ad mentioned Honda rather a John Moloney Sales Position.

He has a lot of non Honda cars on his lot on the Tipp road.

The poor guy in the Hyundai dealership next door is about to burst with used cars by the look of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

Elm are gone from Volvo eitherways, and John Moloney lost Honda, so says a fella working there. Also hear there are a few salespersons being let go all around. As for Hyundai, it looks like he has plenty of stock to keep him warm for the winter lol!

On another related matter Tom Hogan has closed his Lexus dealership on the Dock Road in Limerick. He now has the BMW/MINI dealership as well as Toyota/Lexus in Galway though.

No idea mate, his premises on the Dock Road was only temperary to begine with and there were never any proper showrooms there. Hardly a nice place to be selling premium branded cars from, in all honesty.

Did Barrys at the Headford Roundabout lose the dealership? They should last if they only have Ford to rely on. Busy Motorfactors.

Presume so as it hardly makes sense to have two BMW/MINI dealerships within spitting distance of each other.

Yeah I remember that alright, at the time I heard he bought the land that the old texaco/esso (can't remember which) station was on just after Coonagh cross towards Shannon and he was going to build a showroom there, by the looks of it that was just a rumour.

Rightly so too, i always thought of it as an ould shack of a place, much like John Moloney's new place, neither wouldn't entice me to buy a car.

Well John Moloney's current place was always going to be only a stop gap until his new Honda showroom was built. The developer who bought his old site wanted to move in quickly.

The new Honda showroom is not complete yet and if he has lost the dealership then it will be interesting to see who if anyone moves in there.
