Have you gone into it??? Is it any use?

It's a bit out of my way but if there are decent tailoring supplies and not just the usual Debs and wedding dress trimmings all the Irish shops have, I'm there.

It's primarily a yarnshop. If you knit or crochet you will find it useful. I was in there on Sat and wound up spending more money than planned on yarn and patterns. The people running it are in my experience extremely helpful but if you are looking for fabric it is not the place for you.

I like it. It's a ten minute drive from me as opposed to the miles to thisisknit or springwools.

    After that...

Sounds great:) but not really suitable for me then.

Was hoping for items like collar canvas, melton, horn buttons, buttonhole cord etc.. or even a roll of dot and cross paper without having to pay international shipping (sorry off in a dreamy fantasy there)

I'm so fed up not being able to get so much stuff I considered normal since I moved back to Ireland (and paying through the nose for trimmings and haberdashery bits I can get.)

But that's completly irrevelivent, just my little rant. I hope this shop does well.

I know exactly how you feel. I have that problems with tapestry. I order in from France.

Yeah, I order from abroad, usually the UK but sometimes you're just a few centimeters short of something because of some mistake or one button goes missing and it would be so nice to be able to pop into town and get cotton tape in the right colour or that extra button. Hmmm, I wonder if there's a market for a new store in Ireland??

Has anybody been in this shop lately? I am looking for a shop that sells a large range of buttons. I am changing the buttons on a coat of mine (cos two fell off and I had only one spare!) and I am having not much look finding places that sell buttons near me (West Dublin). At this stage ill have a look further afield!:)

Hi. Reubenesque on South William Street is probably the best in Ireland. You could give them a buzz and see if they have what you need. The other option is Ebay and that way you don't have to leave your house!!

I went to "This is knit" in powerscourt shopping center, they hardly had any collection. Do you usually get what you are looking for in "This is knit"?

The big problem is that they are very limited for space in the Powerscourt Centre. They have a much bigger collection in Blackrock. If you are looking for something in particular ask them and they will get it. The website is lso good. Both Jackie and Lisa would do their best to get what you want.

I don't think I know that shop although I'm sure I've walked up and down South William St a thousand times. What's near it/beside it? Will be home for a week in March and might just treat myself to some bits and pieces.

I think This is knit and Springwools are very expensive. They also do an awful lot of merino yarn which is really dear. Anyway why dosent someone open a yarn warehouse.? And we have nowhere in dublin15 to buy wool either!:(

I must get out to Stitch soon. Thanks for the tip on Reubenesque, must check it out.

I'd love a yarn warehouse too but I don't think they'd get enough business to keep going. There used to be loads of wool shops in Ireland but they all closed, I'm not sure there's enough new knitters out there yet to support a big shop. But merino is so nice even if it's expensive. I dunno I think if you're going to go to the bother of knitting something it's nice to use something natural and warm like real wool.
Have you tried Kilcarra Irish Tweed? It's made in Ireland and is a lovely wool and great value.

The choice is just so small here. Judging by the crowds at the Knit and Stitch show last year we are sorely lacking in all supplies for arts and crafts people. Although the internet is great in its own way, I need to touch and feel yarn before I buy it.
