    Here what channels can be picked up with this bad boy??.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    About 2000TV + 1500 Radio with a motor in about 70+ languages, or 40 odd decent TV and 20 decent radio from 28.2E (UK Sky/Freesat platform) in English.

    Dish is too small for Ireland, especially away from East coast.

    For an Extra 15 euro you will get this http://satworld.ie/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=100

    or

    For an Extra 20 euro you will get this http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-23-28201R

    Either of these two would be better value than whats on sale in lidl.

    is the LiDL dish size 60cm or 80cm?
    i can't find the size on the link

    what receiver is this?
    silvercrest sl65?

    *** checked the shop ad - it is a 80cm one but no idea of receiver

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 371 ✭✭biologikal

    Probably is a SL65, a Comag clone, a fine receiver.

    If it's an 80cm, it's plenty big for most satellites in this country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 685 ✭✭✭jackbauer

    does anyone know if the sl65 will support usals /diseq1.2?
    cheers,
    jack

    Comag is itself just a rebrand.
    These are undoubtedly originally Chinese manufactured, probably GMI Taiwan.

    Cant recall if it has USALS, I'll look for manual, definitely Diseqc v2.0.
    Quite fast, small, easy enough to use

    Don't think it has 2.0. 2.x is bi-directional comms.

    It has 1.2 and USALS (often called 1.3) positioner capability.

    http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20081013.index
    does anyone have any info?

    The receiver for 49.99 looks like the one that came with the last few Lidl kits, plus this time it has an HDMI output. The last few were fine receivers with easy to use menus.

    The one for 169.99 looks like a twin tuner.
    Does anybody know if you can record from one of the scart inputs to the hard disk ? Or can you only record satellite channels on this receiver ?

    Not great value.

    No. It only records satellite.

    Also useless really as it only integrates with German/Austrian 7 day EPG for planning. You need a Sky+(subscription only) or a UK Freesat (all free channels) PVR in Ireland so you can plan/schedule recordings easily.

    It's worth paying the 10% to 20% more for a true Freesat box
    * Interactive works
    * BBC Text
    * No retuning when channels change frequency etc.
    * All channels added automatically
    * Full week Program Guide

    Lidl box:
    * No interactive. Hard to find Sports alternate screens
    * Only Teletext. Most UK channels don't do traditional Teletext but Interactive Text.
    * Channels regularly vanish when transponders change. You may need to research on Internet to find new transponder
    * Initially many channels missing
    * Only now & next program guide. Full weekly guide only applies to some mainland Europe channels (mostly German).
    * Essentially for German market, though has English dialogue.
    * HMDI but not HD.

    I have to disagree with you on the Interactive point. The frequencies are available on many sites and they can be placed in order like normal channels, which in fact is a lot easier and faster than having to go in and out of the interactive menus.

    dumb question, but do i need a dish for this...

    http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20081013.p.HDMIDigitalSatelliteReceiver

    Or does it have a built in antenna.

    I know im sorry im not very techy.

    Have tv in my room with no aerial connection and wondered if i could plug this into it for a few random channels.

    for 50 squid like it sounds good

    You can even add the Interactive feeds on a Sky box "other channels" or a FTA receiver. But it's pretty useless. How do you know when they are there or what they are connected to? I've used both methods and the Interactive Menu for wimbledon etc is better. On a Freesat box you have both options.

    The text pages of Interactive won't work at all unless you have Freesat or Skybox.

    And I'm pretty sure that that particular model does NOT have an HDMI connection! Looks like a mistake has been made.

    The Lidl box may not have super features, but it works.
    It has a good clear reliable picture and it's easy to use. I installed one for my parents.
    They can't program the VCR but they can use the Lidl box.
    I think 49.99 is good value, I know for a few more euro you can get more features, but for people like my parents, they wouldn't use the extra features. They wouldn't know what interactive is, never mind use it.
