Perlico Outgoing server SMTP not working for me

I am setting up a POP3 account through Outlook 2007 for someone. I originally set up the hosting through Blacknight solutions.

I configured outlook using the settings supplied to me from blacknight, tested the settings and it worked fine

    POP3 server:pop33r.cp.blacknight.com

    SMTP server:smtp1r.cp.blacknight.com

I then tried the SMTP address suppied from perlico mail.perlico.ie, but this will not work.

I then tried the same setup using my own provider NTL smtp.upcmail.ie and this works fine. So i thought it must be a problem with perlico's outgoing server.

They told me their is nothing wrong with their server and that they could not offer me any other support!!!! very helpful...not!

Can anyone offer me any other advice as I dont know what else to try. Thanks in advance :(

If your provider is NTL, and it works fine with them, then why do you want to use Perlico's SMTP? Is the person you are configuring it for on Perlico? Are you connected to their home network when you are configuring it?

    Hey Aidan

Yes thats correct. He has Perlico in his office and I have NTL at home. I tried to configure it in his office using his perlico connection.

Can you telnet to the Perlico server? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995718.aspx

If you can telnet to it and send mail then your connection is fine. If you can't telnet to it, then something on his network is blocking access. Perhaps a port on firewall/router needs to be opened.

I'm sorry I can't offer anything very useful - I helped someone on Perlico yesterday to set up their Eircom mail through OE and the outgoing server of 'mail.perlico.ie' works fine for her. Is there any point in doing it for OE/Windows Mail first and then exporting to Outlook?
Doesn't SEEM to make a lot of sense, I know, but sometimes the lateral approach works :o

If it's of any use, I spent an hour or so on Friday talking to Perlico about the same problem.

Broadband finally arrived in the West of Ireland last week !

Likewise, I'm a client of Blacknight and I'll give their very helpful team a call on Monday just in case.

I have set up every thing correctly and my outgoing mail occasionally sends successfully.

The problems that I am experiencing are only with pop accounts associated with domain names that I own and have hosted with BK.

There is no problem with outgoing mail on an eircom.net mail account that I am also using....

    Western Cruiser

The solution to my problem was to use blacknights incoming server address as the outgoing smtp address also.

Then go to outgoing server settings and tick the box that says 'my outgoing server requires authentication' and also tick 'use same settings as my incoming server'

    Worked fine for me.. Goodluck!

Belated thanks ! ( Just back after a week away)

Still no response (despite pomises) from Perlico tech support:(.

My incoming server for each of my domains (eg xyz.com) is mail.xyz.com.

Are you saying to use the same for outgoing server as well?

    Thanks again,

    WC
