Okay, Im going to a Sunderland match on the Oct Bank holiday weekend and the airlines have raise their prices dramatically on the flights into Newcastle

I think Durham airport is the nearest airport to Newcastle , and the flights are a lot cheaper so we are thinking of flying into Durham.

Does anybody know the best way(s) to get to Sunderland from Durham Airport?

    Any info on :
    Taxi's - cost/length of time
Trains - station far from airport or close by/ cost / length of time

Also , is there any good sites to check ?

    Thanks very much

    according to the airports website
    http://www.durhamteesvalleyairport.com/page.php?p=71
there's a free bus service to darlington train station and according to here
    http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/
there are lots of services to newcastle, once in newcastle you can get the metro to sunderland, it could end up cheaper hiring a car between a group of you but the train looks the best bet. if you can book your train tickets in advance you may save a bit of money as well.
