    Alright lads,

I'm living near London for the past few weeks and a few of us are heading up there this weekend the p!ss. Last time we went there we were told to go to Leicester Square for good pubs/clubs- Turned out to be the Temple Bar of London, no thanks! Then we were told to go to Shoreditch, again, not much going on that we could find. Next people we asked purposely sent us in the wrong direction, so we have our doubts about the locals' recommendations!

Anyone been to London and can recommend a place with decent music and a good pint?

The Wenlock Arms: 26 Wenlock Road, N1 7TA is probably one if not the best real ale pubs in the city, but its best getting a cab to it

Id head to Camden.theres lots of cool pubs and clubs there,'The worlds end' is particulalry great for a fun night out.

I wouldnt touch Leisterr square itself with a barge pole but dinner in China Town and drinks in Waxy O'Conners and O'Neils (near trocodero) is a good way to go

The trouble with London, is that there is no real city centre, like there is in Dublin.

What sort of things are you looking for? glitzy glam where you might see a few celebs, or a night with good beer, live music and a club nearby?

Where are you staying, ot what station are you heading into?

The latter my friend, good beer, live music and a club nearby is exactly what we want.

sarf of the river guv, i don't go there!!

the only two pubs i know down that way are the market Porter at London bridge and the Duke of York in Borough (Near Elephant and castle, used to be the Goose and Firkin, probably the greatest pub ever). if you like a bit of Ale, both are good bets.

the Market Porter gets very busy and is probably a better bet for going on somewhere.

I have a few colleagues from around that area, i'll ask around.

Highly recommend the market porter very good:),

The Royal Oak in Borough is also good along with the The Rake Borough Market, enjoy

Agreed. Camden is a pretty hip place. There is a pub there called the Unicorn which has live music pretty much every night. It's kind of like Eamon Doran's or Bruxelle's

edit: the World's End? Camden? Interesting. Those place names are mentioned in Bret Eaton Ellis' book Rules of Attraction...

But public transport is plentiful so that is pretty good.Camden is a good place for clubs ,you see some hidden gems of pubs in places but it depends on the area .As you know London is not a safe as Dublin, just watch each others back.

My favourite pubs in London are normally around the West End. You get a great mix of theatre 'lovies' mixing with us regular folk. There's also some really good cocktail bars (for the wimmins of course) in the West End - one in particular being Denim.

Keep an eye out for 'Happy Hour' specials in pubs over there. Being Irish, we're not allowed have 'Happy Hour's anymore!

Half price cocktails (With good quality spirits) and £1.50 for a bottle of Cobra in Prohibition from 5 til 7. That's our favourite afterwork gig. get down there for 5, stick £20 in the kitty and walk out at 7:30 absolutely trollied:D

The one we go to is quite good, it's on Bishopsgate just down from Tower 42, but its probably dead at weekends if it opens at all.

I liked Shoreditch and Camden I have to say... A bit more indie and hip ;)

Went to a place called 'roadhouse' i think it was called. Big club type place in Covent garden. Complete meat market, but good craic...

Go to the Porterhouse in Covent Garden, biggest pub in London and owned by same guys as here so good beer. Like others said Camden's good, Hoxteth has a good vibe, there's some cool pubs in Brixton but it's not for everybody. Islington's got a good vibe too, get the tube to Angel, come out and turn right and then take the right at the slug & lettuce and there's some good pubs there
