Can anyone tell me how parking works on campus ?

    Do students have to pay?
I am registering for first time next Tuesday but need to be parked on campus on and off this week, so as yet I have no student ID, is there anywhere I can park on campus? do I have to pay? If so how? what about the gravel carparks ?

    Many thanks for help

You can print out a temporary parking permit from the website. It includes a marked out campus map of where you can park. To get a year long permit I think you need to have registered with the college. You can collect your permit in a small office in the arts and science building. It's straight in from the main door. But the print out from the website will do until then. Best of luck.

    You don't need to pay.

The temporary parking permit will only work if you have a student ID number, which you don't so thats no use to you. If you want to park on campus there are a number of P&D areas which you can use, and can be found here .

    so just to clarify,

atm, I need to P&D yes?

when I register and get my id, I can get a permit that allows me to park for free, yes ?

    also, the parking map here
    http://www.nuigalway.ie/buildings/documents/map_carparks.pdf
is a bit confusing. P&D spaces are marked in blue. Staff parking is marke
d in red but the text instruction at the top of the image is in green ? So all we have on the map is P&D and staff parking. which begs the question, where do students with permits park ?

    thanks all

You don't need to use pay and display. Print out the temporary permit from the website. In the space looking for your student ID I think it's the same number that you were issued when you applied via the CAO. It's 8 digits long with 08 at the start.

As for parking, if you head down the Distillery Road entrance take a left. It's the road that passes the new sports centre. On your right (in front of sports centre) you'll see a gravel car park (for students). If you go past the sports centre and under the bridge you'll see another gravel car park (also for students). Another student carpark is further down the same road beside St. Anthony's building. Students are also allowed to park in corrib village once they have a permit.

I think students can park in the carpark beside the tennis courts in front of the Aula Maxima building.

    Hope this helps.

KJ V is probably right actually, but I'm not sure if there would be an issue as you haven't registered yet, the easiest thing is to ring the buildings office - 091 52441

Be aware that the temporary permit only entitles you to park in Corrib Village.

also I did not register via CAO, I registered via PAC (postgrad), so I dont even have a CAO number.

I shall be registering next tuesday, I shall have my ID and student card from Wednesday hopefully.

So, can I park for free in the college once I have these ?
Do I get a permit from the website ? does anyone know the url ?

    many thanks

You can use the PAC number instead of the CAO number on the temporary permit (the one you print off the website) Then you can park for free in all the carparks I mentioned earlier. (The PAC number will become your student ID number). Next week once you get your student card go to the parking office where they'll give you a year long permit.

It's all a free service and you park for free.
