I'm new to Boards & new to this, I have a feeling something is in my house... over the past few days my stereo is popping on & off by itself, I had to unplug it thinking there must be a bad electricity supply or something. Then today in the shower I felt distinct tapping on my head! :eek:I Know mad or what! Well, I felt this tapping which was like someones individual fingers tapping my head not aggressively just a few taps really quickly, I turned around thinking there was someone there, funny thing is although I got a start I was not shocked or in fear or anything. I checked to see if it was water droplets falling from the ceiling but as I had the window open there were no steam droplets up there & it's pretty high up so rarely has that problem. The house is not old, it's rented so I dont know much about it, there was at least one other tenant who left 4 months ago & I moved in. I often hear unexplained noises but always put them down to the cooker area cooling down or the laminate flooring snapping back up (creaks etc) does anyone think I could have a "friend" here with me?

i'd doubt it unless more substantial things started happening. faulty wiring could make a stereo go on and off and as for the tap on the head .... well if you are in the shower with water falling all over the place its probably easy to imagine someone tapping on your head.

If you ever ger freaked out the best thing to start doing is leave a tape recorder or video recorder running

Youre only in the house less than 4 months, and it does take a while to get used to all the noises a new place makes. With any of this stuff, its best to go for the most obvious reason first, and as youve said with your stereo, it could be an electrical glitch, say, its remote sensor picking up a random signal and turning on. (We have RC lights here that do that when someone turns on or off a car alarm).

Concerning the shower, my first thought was dripping water as well. Or water in your hair etc. Like I said, if theres a possible 'real' explanation, thats probably what it was. Id bet theres so many of us have had things happen at home like this that make us jump, and then you realise its the cat/a draught/the heating coming on... you know, all innocent stuff.

Trouble is if you start thinking youve got someone with you, you may start to ascribe all kinds of innocuous sounds and events to your 'visitor'. So unless theres something that you REALLY cant explain, Id dismiss it and live happily in your home. :)

Im not saying that you absolutely dont have anything paranormal happening, but at this stage nothing youve said would convince me. In any case, do remember that even if you did have a ghostly house guest, youre in no danger whatsoever, and the worst that can happen is that you get the heebie geebies.

You can play the "wait and see" game but you will have it in your head that "something" might be going on.

    My suggestions would be:

    • Get a blessing done to give you peace of mind
    • Get someone in who can give you there opinion on whether they think somene is going on.
    • Ignore it

probably an electromagnetic field in the house, could be caused by the wiring or where the house is built. You'll get used to it soon enough , try not to let it bother you too much.

Yes I agree, there is a small airport a mile down the road which when light aircraft fly over head, they affect my phone connections and sometimes the tv, could this also be why my vodafone plug in usb internet keeps crashing too!! It's so annoying!

After having read your description, it might be possible that there is something going on. However, this would only be the case if this continues to happen. If so, try to gather information about that particular house, the exact age, earlier occupants, or if something happened in there during the time of earlier occupants. You should compile all information, also if it seems insignificant. It might help you understand if there is indeed something like a ghost in that house. But that's only what I would do... it is entirely up to you.

Well IMO here we have a few different things happening, none of which are beyond explanation on their own.

I'd exchange my stereo for another similar one and see what happens

I'd examine the shower head and check for blocked holes due to lime scale (even soak it in white vinegar)

The creaks etc, I'd ignore them.

If you are interested in seeing if something is there, try to see if you get them to repeat themselves but with different materials (i.e. different stereo and cleaned shower head)

The situation would be much more interesting if the same things happened to different material IMHO.
