    Hi
I have a problem I hope you guys can help me out with:

Basically whenever I download something, as soon as the download completes I cant open it. Basically the only evidence that I have downloaded something file appears in the "download" file in Tools of my firefox brower. However the downloaded files wont open. (I've tried IE-same story)

So I go to the default download file on the start menu and its empty. I search for the file and no results are found

I've tried downloading other stuff and its the same story. And yes they are set to be downloaded to the default download file.

I've Vista. I've not had any problems for a good while.

    Any ideas??
    Cheers

So from Tools->Downloads the window that opens shows the downloaded file right?
Try right clicking on it and from the context menu choose "open containing folder" or just double click on it and see what happens.

That doesnt work. The file is there, but when I right click it, "Open" and "Open containing folder" are void options as in shaded in grey.

    Do you use AVG antivirus?

I'd try disabling your antivirus and/or spyware programs and try that.

In the Firefox preferences Main section change your download options to "always ask me where to save files". Then have that particular folder open when you start a download. If the file is being downloaded two files should appear. One the filename with 0kb and a second with the filename that has and extra extension of ".part" which will increase in size. See if this is happening and if it is does the file just disappear on complete?
