    Folks,
I'm trying to email an 11mb file but my eircom account wont handle it.

Can anyone suggest an email account (free!!!) that can handle 11mb attachments?

Failing that, does anyone know of an upload/sharing site where I can upload the file and have it shared by others?

    Thanks in advance,
    G23

I've never come across an email service larger than 10mb. For anything above 10mb I use

WinRar and send it in chunks?

There was a free version of WinRar floating around for a while, but I don't know if it's still free.

You get a 40 day (I think) free trial with it anyway.

With email there are two size limits - one on the sender's SMTP server and another on the receiver's SMTP server. They may be different as there is no agreed standard. Postfix defaults to a 10 MB message size limit but it can be changed by the server admin.

You could split up the file into smaller chunks but a file hosting service will be easier for the recipient to deal with and is more bandwidth efficient.

Wikipedia has a comparison table of notable file hosting services:

Dropbox FTW, it creates a sharing folder on each of your pc's, just drop the file in there and it will be uploaded and available on the other pc

Sorry but I've no beta testing invites left, someone else here might have some.

    Really quick & handy.

Just up the file & copy & paste the download link to an email.

No account setup or login required.

It also gives you a removal link should you want to delete the file after the recipient receives it.

It will be automatically removed after 7 days if you don't.

I'd second dropbox... excellent app. but remember if you make it public, its accessible to all dropbox users, so encrypt it before you make it public

Gmail does up to 20MB attachment, and it's free.
