Do yourself a big favour and think of another career! People still have the illusion that taxi driving is a great job and you can make lots of money.. my advice is get a job driving for someone else so you can see what it is really like .. when you're spending more time driving around trying to find a space on a rank, trying to find a fare and then when you do try sitting there hour on hour and if you're lucky you might get 1 good fare otherwise you're like the rest of us earning less than €5 per hour-- I'm going back to college and can't wait to get out!

1 . There is no average price for the rental of a taxi as it depends on many factors.... is maintainence included or not, is insurance included or not, is it a new/newish vehicle or not etc.

    2. If the person renting the taxi to you isn't prepared to put you onto their policy as a named driver then you will have to get your own insurance, this may be due to a lack of your experience in driving a taxi, which may make the cost of the additional driver too much. The one advantage to having your own policy is that you at least start to get a record of having SPSV insurance which means you qualify for no claims bonuses earlier...

    3. Depends on your circumstances, some people like to test the water first by renting a taxi and seeing if they like the hours etc. others just jump straight in and buy the whole thing outright as a start..

My opinion, give it some serious thought before you go either way, it's not the goldmine that everyone in the pub reckons it is...
